Now through Nov. 8, 2022:
Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) is the only Latina in the Senate and a former NV Attorney General. She won the 2016 election by only 2.4%, taking over Harry Reid’s seat after his retirement. NV is a purple state, and Cortez Masto helped the Democratic party narrowly win the majority in 2020. Her re-election is considered one of the most tenuous of the 2022 races. Nevada, with its hard-hit, hospitality-centered economy, exemplifies the most critical challenges Democrats face in their fight to keep the Senate majority. They need an economic revival that leaves behind the ravages of the coronavirus pandemic and brings down one of the highest state unemployment rates in the U.S. The state will also test the party’s appeal to Latino voters, many of whom voted for Trump in 2020.
