Lesson from the Past: Civil Rights Movement Then & Now is a reflective conversation presented by the Somerville Department of Racial and Social Justice and NAACP in collaboration with Tufts University.
The event is intended to bring together leaders, scholars, and community members to explore the evolution of civil rights advocacy across generations, which will reflect on historical movements, present-day realities, and the work still required to build a more just future.
The panel discussion will focus on the lessons and power of the Civil Rights Movement and what we can learn and apply to the current fight for civil rights that is happening across the nation. Panelists for this event include:
- Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Massachusetts’ 7th Congressional District
- Dr. Michael Curry, Esq., President & CEO of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers
- Courtney Henderson, Co-President of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts
Light refreshments will be available before the moderated discussion. The event will be taking place at the Chase Center on Wednesday, February 18 6-8PM
