SUMMARY:Patriots Standing Up for Democracy
DESCRIPTION:This a local Indivisible event! \n\n\n\nWe have our peaceful Stand Outs weekly. Every Sunday from noon to 1:30pm we line the street around our Common and hold signs that are relevant to fighting for our Democracy. We sing songs and we do chants\, we are unified in our love for our country and we know it is important for us to stand up and be seen\, be heard and be with other Patriots that care about our country. We have copies of the Constitution and flags along with signs that can be used. We welcome all to stand tall with us. We also collect food and funds for our town’s Food Pantry. We are in this together and helping our community in this small way is an act of empathy\, understanding and kindness that we encourage. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:Block by Block - Phone Bank with SURJ! (Win Primaries for Progressive Champions in CA\, ME & MI!)
DESCRIPTION:Come phone bank with SURJ!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are now in a decisive phase of the fight against authoritarianism\, the threat is real and the stakes are high. And people are fighting back. Millions have protested\, and we’ve watched powerful organizing coming out of Minneapolis\, Chicago\, and other cities that have borne the brunt of ICE’s assaults on our communities. Mass anger exists\, but mass organization does not yet exist at the scale needed to win. Movements become real when they reach millions: organized\, trained\, and acting together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome take action with SURJ! We’ll be calling voters about primary races working to elect progressive champions in key states and districts to ultimately take back BOTH the House and Senate this November. These races include: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRandy Villegas\, who is a 30-year old son of immigrants and activist for immigrant rights in his area. He is an elected school board trustee in Visalia\, CA and political science professor who is running to represent California’s 22nd congressional district\, representing Bakersfield and portions of the central valley.\n\n\n\nGraham Platner\, who is a Marine\, U.S. Army veteran\, and oyster farmer running to be the next Senator to represent Maine.\n\n\n\nWill Lawrence\, who is an organizer and coalition-builder with experience speaking truth to power and getting results at the local\, state and federal level running to represent Michigan Congressional District 7 in Lansing.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome as you are! No experience needed! Full training & lots of support included! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCandidate Schedule:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVillegas for CA Congressional District 22 – 5/23 5/28\, 5/30\, 6/2 (Election day)\n\n\n\nPlatner for Senator in ME – 6/6\n\n\n\nLawrence for MI Congressional District 7 – 6/14\, 6/18\n\n\n\nCandidate TBD – 6/20\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLogistics:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese phone banks are online on the Zoom platform. Log into the call on Zoom on your computer and bring your phone to make the calls (if you only have one device\, still come!).\n\n\n\nWe have a robust training on the call to give you all the information you need — a script\, technical support\, and coaching throughout.\n\n\n\nReturners can start early.\n\n\n\nYou will receive an email with orientation materials ahead of time.\n\n\n\nPlease note the time zone for call time.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeeling Unsure?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur model works – learn from the best! Our phonebanks have one of the highest rates of success in the country. No matter whether you’re brand new caller or a seasoned organizer\, if you join our banks\, you can trust that you are putting your effort into a method that works. And you’ll get to learn powerful organizing skills from seasoned leaders!\n\n\n\nOur conversations are based on open-ended questions and deep listening. You do not need to be an expert on the issues or a candidate – our phone banks are successful because we deeply connect with voters and make them feel heard.\n\n\n\nWant to hear what a phonebank is like? Check out this video interviewing SURJ phonebankers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContext:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs Trump and republicans defund the social safety net and peddle more racist lies\, millions of people are increasingly feeling the effects of the billionaire agenda. We know this fight is on multiple fronts\, and this fall we have an opportunity to harness the energy of the streets and rising resentment towards November’s elections – to not only wrest power from MAGA\, but to put candidates in office who are willing to stand up to Trump and fight for working class people. BOTH the House AND Senate are in play for Democrats to take back control and this year we aim to put progressive working class champions in a position to WIN. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the last six years\, SURJ’s phone banking program has grown to be one of the strongest in the country\, reaching millions of working class people with our vision of finding our shared interest in standing alongside people of color and rejecting white supremacy. This year is an opportunity to deliver strategic blows to the MAGA agenda and throw down a gauntlet to force the Democratic Party to reckon with true progressive\, working class fighters. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo do this\, we’re focusing on key House districts in California and New York between April and June in addition to a critical Senate race in Maine. In July and August we will shift focus to primaries for key House districts in Minnesota and Michigan. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese races will affect millions of working class people this year. Our work on Primary races this spring and summer will set us up to add more progressive champions to the halls of congress and take back power this November. We will continue to build power to stop MAGA\, by supporting unapologetically progressive working class champions. Alongside our partners across the country\, this is the time for our movements to offer a bold vision and bring our people into it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout SURJ:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShowing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is the largest organization in the country that explicitly organizes white communities for justice. Instead of choosing racism\, silence\, or complicity\, we help white communities choose justice. We have thousands of national members and 150+ chapters across the US and Canada. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:YAS Queens: No Kings Standout
DESCRIPTION:Indivisible and the national No Kings coalition are calling for another day of nationwide resistance action on June 14\, the one-year anniversary of the first No Kings protest and the day Trump will stage a UFC fight at the White House to celebrate his 80th birthday. June 14 is also Waltham Pride– an event that is particularly meaningful in the context of an Administration and Republican Party that remain hell-bent on making life as hard as possible for our trans community members as part of a broader campaign of oppression towards queer people and people who identify as or are perceived as women. \n\n\n\nIndivisible Waltham will have a table at Pride from noon-4pm and we invite you to stop by our table to connect\, fill out some postcards (or pick up a postcard pack to fill out later and share with friends)\, get some of our newest “I will vote” stickers\, and learn about the plans we’ve been starting to cook up for how to support voter turnout efforts heading into the fall elections. \n\n\n\nNo Kings\, Yaas Queens dance-themed standout after Waltham Pride \n\n\n\nIn consultation with our friends on the Pride organizing team\, we’re organizing a standout immediately following Pride from 4:00-5:30pm on the sidewalks of Main and Moody Street\, adjacent to but not directly on the Common\, as Pride vendors will still be breaking down and cleaning up on the Common. This will be a Pride-themed celebration as protest\, a way to be visible together in community and remind those who count on our apathy that we are not going away and not going to cede our power or our ability to exercise our rights even in the face of intimidation tactics aimed at suppressing and discouraging protest locally and nationally (those Flock cameras are not going to keep us away!)We will take up space\, we will be visible\, we will be loud\, we will dance\, and we will continue to build community and people power. We hope you join us and invite your friends too! There is a digital poster at the end of this newsletter that you can feel free to share with your contacts. \n\n\n\nHow you can help: Bring some extra Prime-themed posters to share! \n\n\n\nWe will be promoting the standout at our Pride table\, and hope that folks who attend Pride who might not otherwise know about our work decide to stay for a bit and join us in the standout. Knowing people are unlikely to bring posters to Pride with them\, it would be very helpful if those of you who will be coming directly to the standout could bring extra posters\, so folks who join without prior planning have a sign they can use.  We’d like the theme to be celebratory\, de-centering or minimizing Trump (as he is a wannabe King with waning relevance and power) and lifting up diversity in all its beautiful forms\, particularly diversity of gender expression\, sexual orientation\, and freedom of expression.

SUMMARY:Bridging the Political Divide: Tools for Constructive Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the monthly meeting of the Indivisible Westford Progressive Massachusetts chapter. This month: \n\n\n\nBridging the Political Divide: Tools for Constructive Conversations \n\n\n\nDemocracy runs on the open exchange of ideas\, but it’s not always easy. We can’t change minds overnight\, but with the right tools we CAN build greater understanding\, and earn the respect of people with a range of political views. \n\n\n\nCome and share your personal experiences on what works and what doesn’t and get some expert advice. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nWe’re thrilled to host Alix Smullin\, one of the founders of Swing Left North Shore/Cape Ann who has extensive experience with voter outreach. \n\n\n\nAlix has been talking politics for many years\, both professionally and as a volunteer. She’ll show us how it’s done\, with concrete examples and suggestions for having better conversations. She will also fill us in on Swing Blue’s Ground Truth program\, which is using some of these techniques to improve political outcomes.

SUMMARY:Rise Up\, Sing Out-Find One Near You
DESCRIPTION:Trump will be marking his birthday once again with made-for-tv spectacle. This time\, instead of emulating dictators with a military parade\, he’ll be playing Roman emperor with a cage match for his amusement at the White House. \n\n\n\nThe Committee for the First Amendment\, with enthusiastic support from the No Kings Coalition\, will be counterprogramming his little stunt with a nationally livestreamed concert featuring prominent activists and musicians.  \n\n\n\nBut ours won’t be mere spectacle. We’re inviting folks to host house parties around the country to build local power around anti-authoritarian defiance. Lots of Indivisible groups already have events planned\, but you don’t need to be a group leader to invite a few friends over and use our organizing toolkit to plan local actions.  \n\n\n\nAnd for those who tune in on their own\, we’ll be offering calls to action around voting\, election protection\, and defense of our First Amendment rights.  \n\n\n\n\nWatch from Home\n\n\n\nHost a Watch Party\n\n\n\n\nYou can find more info at the Rise Up and Sing Out website. \n\n\n\nNote: Many of these events are taking place in private homes.
