DESCRIPTION:Join Swing Left on a day trip to knock doors with Ground Truth—our deep-listening canvassing program. We’re heading to Maine—a must-win Swing State—to knock on doors and build trust to persuade voters to support Troy Jackson. You don’t need to be a policy expert—just a good listener! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Mission: Deep Listening This isn’t your standard canvass. Through Ground Truth\, we are changing how Democrats talk—and more importantly listen—to voters: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKnock More Doors: We don’t narrowly target likely Democrats. We cast a wide net and to truly understand the pulse of the community – and find people open to voting for Dems. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDeep Listening: We have real\, two-way conversations. We’re not pitching or arguing; we’re listening to voter experiences\, fears\, and values. Then we’re sharing a bit about our candidate to win them over once trust is already built. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCapture Insights: You’ll be taking detailed notes on the voters you meet. These insights help us identify persuadable voters and provide campaigns with the deep intelligence they need to win. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to expect: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Trip: For this weekend (10/11)\, Boston-based organizer Isabelle will pick up volunteers from the Medford/Somerville/Cambridge area between 9:00-10:00 am. Pickup and carpool captain details TBD following this weekend; option to carpool with friends from your own town to meet Isabelle there is always there! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCanvassing: We’ll be knocking on doors in from roughly 12:00-5:00pm with a break in the middle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreparation: You’ll receive all training materials\, location details\, and support from your carpool captain. You will be walking door-to-door\, so comfortable shoes\, a water bottle\, and weather appropriate clothing like sunscreen\, a hat\, and an umbrella/poncho are recommended. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe conversations we have today could be the tipping point. Every Sunday from noon to 1:30pm we line the street around our Common and hold signs that are relevant to fighting for our Democracy. We sing songs and we do chants\, we are unified in our love for our country and we know it is important for us to stand up and be seen\, be heard and be with other Patriots that care about our country. We have copies of the Constitution and flags along with signs that can be used. We welcome all to stand tall with us. We also collect food and funds for our town’s Food Pantry. SUMMARY:Activism that Works
DESCRIPTION:Do you wonder what resistance actions are the most effective in standing up to the Trump administration and the Republicans in Congress? \n\n\n\nThis interactive two-hour workshop will present theory and case studies that will help us explore the most effective actions and tactics that can be used to create social change – including addressing the current threat to democracy in the U.S.  \n\n\n\nSpecifically\, the workshop will focus on 1) identifying and putting pressure on primary and secondary targets\, 2) learning about the importance of communicating with unlikely allies and mobilizing passive supporters\, and 3) using creative tactics that draw on cultural resonances of the target audience(s). \n\n\n\n\nRegister for Workshop\n\n\n\n\nInterspersed with learning and studying campaign case studies will be small group discussions and exercises designed to help participants apply concepts to goals and projects they care most about. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nBetsy Leondar-Wright\, PhD\, is a long-time economic justice activist whose graduate studies focused on what makes social movements succeed.  She was active in the campaign to pressure Citizens Bank to stop financing ICE private prison contractors.  She is the author of several books\, most recently Is It Racist? Is It Sexist? \n\n\n\nAnne Wright is a long-time social justice activist.  Over the last 40 years\, she has focused on the anti-intervention and environmental justice movements\, and on voter registration and education for low-income youth.  The sisters are both co-editors of the  Don’t Mourn Organize Eastern Mass substack\, an e-newsletter that recommends action alerts for progressives in the greater Boston area. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact Kate Holland at kholland@uuwayland.org and visit https://classmatters.org/activism-that-works/
