SUMMARY:From Exhaustion to Action: How Communities Sustain the work of Democracy
DESCRIPTION:At a moment when many of us feel overwhelmed\, isolated\, and unsure whether our efforts matter\, Brian Corr offers a grounded\, hopeful framework for staying engaged. Drawing on nearly four decades of experience in community organizing\, peacebuilding\, and civic leadership — including work in grassroots organizing and municipal government — Brian will explore how communities have sustained themselves through times of crisis and built lasting power for change. He’ll share practical lessons and strategies about what keeps people connected\, motivated\, and effective when the stakes are high and the road is long. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is not a talk about what’s wrong — it’s about what we can do together\, and why it’s worth doing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrian Corr is a community organizer\, civic leader\, and facilitator with nearly four decades of experience building power for social change across Massachusetts and the country. A Cambridge-based Democratic State Committeeman and past chair of the Cambridge Democratic City Committee\, Brian has spent his career working at the intersection of government\, grassroots organizing\, and community resilience — helping people and institutions find their footing in difficult times and act effectively together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom 2008 to 2025\, Brian served the City of Cambridge as head of both its civilian police oversight board and its Peace Commission. He is a past President of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE)\, and currently works as Deputy Monitor and Community Liaison for Louisville\, Kentucky’s police reform process. He recently joined Riverside Trauma Center’s Critical Incident Team as an on-call Trauma Center Responder. He has spoken and trained widely across the U.S.\, Canada\, and Mexico on equity\, civic engagement\, and dialogue across difference. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.Read less
