SUMMARY:2025 Sister District MA-RI & Friends Phonebank!
DESCRIPTION:Join Sister District MA-RI to help our candidates build progressive power in state legislatures in 2025! This year\, we’re working to hold the VA House (where all 100 seats will be up for grabs)\, and driving voter engagement to flip the VA Governor’s mansion for a Democratic trifecta. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Zoom Link\n\n\n\n\nWhy phonebank? The data proves it: phonebanking is THE BEST volunteering option for remote voter contact. We identify supporters and let them know why their vote matters\, speak to undecided voters\, and recruit local volunteers for crucial state-legislative races. Every call helps us tidy our lists\, which helps our candidates and makes for a faster\, more efficient phonebank! \n\n\n\nCome one\, come all: No experience necessary. Each Zoom phonebank includes training and check-ins for first-timers (experienced callers can jump right in). We’ll share successes and address questions throughout. Our veteran phonebank leaders will help you get comfortable\, increase your effectiveness\, and make sure you have a great experience.

SUMMARY:Why Fascists Fear Teachers-Indivisible
DESCRIPTION:Across history\, authoritarian regimes have feared educators—because teaching truth and critical thinking empowers students and communities to resist oppression. Today\, public education is under attack\, and defending teachers is defending democracy itself. We have seen broad attacks and lies against subjects like Critical Race Theory and the accurate retelling of our nation’s history of oppressing black and minority demographics. We have also seen attacks against reputable educators and accurate content – from the deepest of red and rural America to the bluest of urban centers. All of this is an attack against the truth and fact. \n\n\n\nJoin Randi Weingarten\, President of the American Federation of Teachers\, for a dynamic conversation on her book\, Why Fascists Fear Teachers. Randi will highlight how educators fight for freedom in classrooms\, the dangers of censorship and attacks on schools\, and why standing with teachers is a revolutionary act. \n\n\n\n\nGet Zoom Link\n\n\n\n\nAhead of World Teachers’ Day on Oct. 5th\, this event is a must for activists\, educators\, and anyone who believes truth and education are essential to democracy.

SUMMARY:Action Hour-IndivisibleLAB
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our Daytime Action Hour to hear from our special guest\, Scotia Hille\, who is the executive director of Act On Mass. \n\n\n\nAct on Mass is a nonprofit organization focused on transparency and accountability in the state legislature in Massachusetts. They are currently working on a few initiatives that would target the tremendous concentration of power in legislative leadership in MA\, which disempowers rank-and-file representatives\, stifles dissent\, and stalls progress. \n\n\n\nExecutive Director Scotia Hille will be joining us to talk about one of these\, a potential ballot question for 2026 to reform MA’s anomalous system of “loyalty pay\,” which allows leaders to use member salaries as a form of control. The question is currently in the signature-gathering phase and actively seeking volunteers.  \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for exact address

SUMMARY:One Million Rising meeting - Fitchburg
DESCRIPTION:Across the country\, authoritarian forces are getting bolder and more dangerous. Trump and his allies are not hiding their agenda: mass deportations\, rollbacks of civil rights\, weaponized courts\, and full-scale attacks on our democracy. We don’t have to wait until it’s too late. We can stop this. But it’ll take all of us—not just on single days of mass action\, but through sustained organizing in our communities. \n\n\n\nThat’s why this summer\, Indivisible launched One Million Rising—a national effort to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation\, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design. This is how we build people power that can’t be ignored. You’re invited to join us—and lead. \n\n\n\nLet’s build a force bigger than fear and louder than hate. Let’s get ready. Let’s get organized. Let’s stop Trump. \n\n\n\nThis a local Indivisible event! \n\n\n\nPlease join us at the First Parish Church in Fitchburg at 923 Main Street. Parking is available along the Common\, in the post office parking lot\, and in the Workers’ Credit Union parking lot. If you need to park closer\, please let one of the organizers know. It’s important to us that you be there if you want to be. We will make it work! Enter the church on the LEFT side of the building. There will be a sign on the door. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nPlease\, bring a friend or two! One Million Rising is all about bringing more people into the fold. Bring a friend who might just want to hear what we’re all about and what we’re doing about it. \n\n\n\nPlease arrive by 6:45pm – the meeting will begin PROMPTLY at 7pm. \n\n\n\nThe core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:Rent Stabilization and the Housing Crisis
DESCRIPTION:In 2023 and 2024\, PDM hosted a series of five Forums to explore the Commonwealth’s housing crisis and identify key strategies to address it. Last year\, the legislature passed the Affordable Homes Act\, an important step forward on a number of these strategies. But many challenges remain\, especially our critical shortage of low and middle-income housing. \n\n\n\nCorporate real estate investors continue to drive up housing prices in many MA communities. Corporate landlords raise rents and reduce availability of affordable units\, thereby preventing many families from finding stable housing. Permitting rent stabilization would protect tenants from sudden steep rent hikes and maintain more equitable access to housing. \n\n\n\nIn 1994\, a ballot initiative narrowly passed\, discontinuing rent control statewide. Despite ballooning rents and shortages\, our legislature has refused to restore measures to protect tenants. If proponents collect enough signatures\, the 2026 MA ballot will include a rent stabilization initiative to limit rent increases to a maximum of 5% per year\, support small landlords by exempting owner-occupied buildings with four or fewer units and encourage continued housing production with 10-year exemptions for new construction. PDM supports the ballot initiative and is hosting this forum to discuss how it would help. \n\n\n\n\nSign up for zoom link and recording\n\n\n\n\nOur panelists\, Mark Martinez\, a Housing Attorney at the Massachusetts Law Reform  Institute (MLRI)\, and Carolyn Chou\, Director of Homes for All Massachusetts\, will explain the importance of rent stabilization and how you can help get the question  on the ballot. Cathleen Cavell will moderate.
