SUMMARY:The Founders Saw the Dangers of Great Wealth
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Dr. Daniel Mandell\, Emeritus Professor of History\, Truman State University. Author of the “The Lost Tradition of Economic Equality in America\, 1600-1870.” Dr. Mandell will examine politics\, theology\, economics\, law and literature to highlight how the founding generation of the United States feared that concentrated wealth would corrupt their republic. Their belief in the need for a “rough equality” of property was shaped by Roman historians\, radical Protestant writers\, and Enlightenment philosophers\, and supported by the remarkable level of economic parity before the American Revolution. In the wake of the war\, Americans generally believed that they lived in the most egalitarian country in the world\, but worried that it would be ruined by men using great wealth to gain power. Although this tradition of economic equality would be marginalized after 1800\, it remained a significant part of American culture. \n\n\n\nReception Following the Lecture. Free and Open to the Public.

SUMMARY:Regional Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Cape Ann Indivisible State–Federal Legislative Team invites residents of Massachusetts Congressional District 6 to this high-impact Regional Town Hall. While hosted in Gloucester\, this is a truly regional forum. Invitations have been extended to State Senators and Representatives from contiguous districts across the broader Sixth Congressional District\, creating a rare opportunity for constituents and lawmakers to engage face-to-face in one shared space. \n\n\n\nAt a moment of mounting budget pressure\, proposals for additional tax cuts raise urgent questions about the Commonwealth’s ability to sustain essential public services. This evening is designed to surface those questions clearly and publicly—giving constituents the opportunity to be heard and legislators the opportunity to respond directly to the communities they serve. \n\n\n\n\nFor security purposes and to reserve your place\, advance registration is required. Please email with your name\, town\, and number of attendees to caiconfirm@gmail.com.\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers include Jonathan Cohn\, Policy Director\, Progressive Massachusetts; and Crisayda Belen\, Campaigns Director for Field First\, and who also serves as Project Manager for Raise Up Massachusetts. They will address (1) the scope and urgency of the fiscal challenges and (2) the policy initiatives now under consideration\, providing context for personal stories from district residents. Following these testimonials\, speakers will pose questions to attending legislators\, with time reserved for audience questions. \n\n\n\nKey Revenue Initiatives Under Discussion \n\n\n\nClarifying the Massachusetts High Technology Council’s push for 2026 tax cut ballot measures \n\n\n\nDecoupling the most costly federal corporate tax provisions from automatic state adoption \n\n\n\nAdvancing the Corporate Fair Share bill (H.3110/S.2033)\, projected to raise up to $400 million annually \n\n\n\nResponsibly utilizing 15% of the $8.6 billion Rainy Day Fund \n\n\n\nCheck-In: 4:15–5:00pmThe program will begin promptly at 5:00pm.

SUMMARY:Monthly Training and Huddle-Maynard
DESCRIPTION:This a local Indivisible Maynard Area event. \n\n\n\nWe meet monthly from 6:30-8:30pm to get informed and to take action. Our next meeting is Feb 19. We will be joined by Sen Jamie Eldridge for the first part. He will share actions that can happen on the state level and ways we can help get the legislation over the finish line. The second half of our meeting will be devoted to taking action: we will primarily be packing whistles for ourselves and to distribute to our neighbors. Please bring a small donation to help cover the cost of whistles and materials especially for those who can’t come. We will also be collecting canned and dried packaged food to donate to community members in need. \n\n\n\n\nSpace is limited\, please rsvp for exact address\n\n\n\n\nSpace is limited\, so RSVP is required. If you would like to receive our emails on other events or join our group\, you can go to our webpage and join our group there: indivisiblemaynard.org \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action.
