DESCRIPTION:One of the goals in creating MAMA Discord server was to help bridge the generational gap we are seeing with many activist groups right now\, particularly within Indivisible chapters. Toward that end\, we started a Discord Workshop\, in collaboration with Indivisible Acton Area chapter. \n\n\n\n\nGet Link!\n\n\n\n\nThis workshop is right after the weekly zoom check-in with the national organizers for Indivisible\, since it is particularly geared toward Indivisible members in MA chapters. Though of course everyone is welcome to join. \n\n\n\nWe’re going to spend the first 30min-1hr helping people to install Discord on their devices and showing them the ropes. How the servers work\, what kind of tools are available\, how to make posts and share things\, how to mute channels and manage the chatter\, and so on. We will also talk about other apps and tools people commonly use such as Signal and Slack. The next hour of the workshop will be optional and open-ended for asking questions and exploring the MAMA server.

DESCRIPTION:Professional mediator Vanessa Linsey headlines Indivisible Winchester’s speaker series with a lively\, interactive communication workshop. In this 90-minute session inspired by Indivisible’s “Truth Brigade\,” attendees will learn positive approaches to political conversation at a time of unprecedented polarization and disinformation. \n\n\n\nAttendees will understand how to recognize disinformation\, when to engage (and when NOT to)\, and what they can do to change the dynamic through truthful\, firm\, and friendly conversation tactics. Attendees may role-play de-escalation\, practice finding common ground\, focus on fact sharing\, experiment with “stop and think” questions\, and try drafting social media comments. Staying composed during rapid response moments is easier said than done\, and this hands-on session will prepare attendees to communicate effectively and positively. \n\n\n\nAbout the presenter: Vanessa is a Cornell-trained family mediator who has logged many thousands of hours facilitating interpersonal conflict. Her engaging communication workshops feature mindfulness-based approaches to mutual understanding. This event will support our campaign to pass H.2554/S.1557 to remove the non-medical exemption from required school vaccines. \n\n\n\nWe will gather at 10:00am in Room 428 to hear from bill sponsor Representative Andy Vargas\, learn about MAFV’s poll showing strong support for passing H.2554/S.1557\, hear from experts about the importance of strengthening vaccine requirements in schools\, and watch a clip from the documentary Shot in the Arm. (You can view the trailer here.) Refreshments will be provided.
