SUMMARY:GAIN August Membership Meeting: Speakers Mass Surveilance and "Democracy on the Ballot"
DESCRIPTION:Seems like everyone’s talking about FLOCK cameras. Learn more from some of our local experts. Here’s the backgrounds of our speakers for GAIN’s upcoming membership meeting. Don’t miss this important discussion. \n\n\n\nAllison Richardson “Exploring Mass Surveillance: what it is\, how it has been used\, and how it has affected our 4th amendment rights.” \n\n\n\nThis talk will address the concerns and issues around adopting AI driven mass surveillance technology. From automatic license plate readers\, to facial recognition video cameras\, to first responder drones\, our technology is rapidly increasing\, but what safeguards are in place to ensure it is used properly and that our rights to privacy are upheld? How has this technology currently been used and abused? What data does it collect\, how is that data stored and who can access it? We will wrap up with some actions we can take at a local level to try to put safeguards in place to ensure our 4th amendment rights are upheld. \n\n\n\nAllison Richardson is a member of the Steering Committee for Indivisible Maynard Area. In April she got connected to Mass50501’s Flock Off Campaign and learned that Mass50501 felt turning off surveillance may be the best way to disrupt ICE. She joined a coalition of folks from about 30 towns in MA including Framingham\, Tewksbury\, Salem\, Woburn and Waltham with groups including LUCE\, Billerica United\, North Shore Progressives\, Mass50501 along with a couple folks from ACLU of Massachusetts who are trying to turn off Flock Cameras in their towns\, push for state legislation to regulate mass surveillance systems and pass local by-laws to protect our communities and 4th amendment rights. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: John Griffin “Democracy on the Ballot” John Griffin is the Executive Director of Partners in Democracy MA Action. \n\n\n\nBefore coming to PID\, he spent a decade working in Massachusetts policy and politics\, including as Massachusetts Policy Director at Democrats for Education Reform. He has experience advising nonprofits\, campaigns\, and civil society organizations on achieving their policy goals in both Massachusetts and Washington\, D.C. John holds a Master in Public Policy degree from the Harvard Kennedy School and speaks French\, Spanish\, Italian\, and Modern Greek. He lives in Walpole\, where he also grew up and graduated from Walpole High School.ights. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible and coalition partner events is a commitment to nonviolent action. SUMMARY:Dismantling Detention | Immigrant Justice Summer Call # 4: How to Funnel Support for Immigrant Justice in Your Community
DESCRIPTION:When ICE comes to your community\, do you know what to do? This summer\, Indivisible is giving you a blueprint. Immigrant Justice Summer is a five-call national training series that will level up how you show up for immigrant justice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImmigrant Justice Summer Call # 4: How to Funnel Support for Immigrant Justice in Your Community\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen an ICE surge hits\, community support floods in from every dirWhen an ICE surge hits\, community support floods in from every direction. Without a system to direct it\, that energy scatters. This call trains you on how to build a link tree that functions as your community’s entry point into the immigrant-led response\, channeling new people\, information\, and training and mutual resources directly to where they’re needed on the ground. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn this one-hour national training call\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nLearn what the funnel model looks like in practice: how your group routes community support to the organizations leading the response without creating a parallel structure.\n\n\n\nGet trained on how to build a link tree that captures what people need to plug in\, including messaging guidance\, mutual aid resources\, direct support campaigns for people impacted\, and training opportunities for people who want to get involved.\n\n\n\nHear directly from a group leader who has used this model in a real surge scenario\, sharing what they put on their link tree\, how they vetted it\, and how they kept it current.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll leave with the knowledge and a concrete tool to set up your own link tree and put it in your community’s hands. This is the fourth call in the five-part Immigrant Justice Summer training series\, open to all Indivisible members. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign Up for Link and Details\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. SUMMARY:Standout to SUPPORT IMMIGRANTS - No Fear Street Theater
DESCRIPTION:Speechifying\, Shakespeare\, & Sea Shanties! Every week\, we stand on Burlington Mall Road with signs\, costumes and flags. We come out to show support for our immigrant neighbors\, express our shame at ICE\, and build community in opposition to the cruel and unconstitutional actions of our government. We are there to tell the world that there is a ICE CONCENTRATION CAMP just two blocks away.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are not there merely to make propaganda against ICE. We are there to make propaganda against fear. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery car that honks in support as they pass is in a small way joining the Resistance. Many who honk may be expressing themselves against ICE terror for the first time. This breaks the ice\, and makes it easier for them to take the next steps. It helps them help others to overcome their fear. We are there to cause a ripple effect. To fight against the terror visited on immigrants\, we need to fight against our own internalized terror. We have nothing to fear. We are America\, fighting back. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you REGISTER by FRIDAY\, you will be notified of cancellations by email. All events held rain or shine & only cancel for large storms or high winds. We recommend dressing comfortably for the weather and bring a water bottle. Bring your sign in support of Immigrants or you are most welcome to use one of the ones we have on hand.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a creative\, participatory protest. If you support immigrants and their constitutional rights\, join us! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.nofearstreettheater.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61584725253124\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPARKING\, PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION & other INFO: This is an outdoor event held at our standout area at the CORNER of MALL ROAD & DISTRICT AVE. The sidewalk area has a paved area and also a grassy area with trees in the background. There is some PARKING about 2 blocks away. Please NOTE: parking that is closer to the standout is private parking & reserved for staff and customers of the businesses and shopping center. ( Some cars have been towed from the private parking\, so we recommend that people chose other options.) Parking info. for the recommended parking areas will be sent to registrants. Public transportation is also available through the MBTA 350 route\, LexExpress & LRTA all of which have stops within 1 block of our standout area.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Latest Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis a local INDIVISIBLE event! A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action.
