SUMMARY:Activism that Works
DESCRIPTION:Do you wonder what resistance actions are the most effective in standing up to the Trump administration and the Republicans in Congress? \n\n\n\nThis interactive two-hour workshop will present theory and case studies that will help us explore the most effective actions and tactics that can be used to create social change – including addressing the current threat to democracy in the U.S.  \n\n\n\nSpecifically\, the workshop will focus on 1) identifying and putting pressure on primary and secondary targets\, 2) learning about the importance of communicating with unlikely allies and mobilizing passive supporters\, and 3) using creative tactics that draw on cultural resonances of the target audience(s). \n\n\n\n\nRegister for Workshop\n\n\n\n\nInterspersed with learning and studying campaign case studies will be small group discussions and exercises designed to help participants apply concepts to goals and projects they care most about. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nBetsy Leondar-Wright\, PhD\, is a long-time economic justice activist whose graduate studies focused on what makes social movements succeed.  She was active in the campaign to pressure Citizens Bank to stop financing ICE private prison contractors.  She is the author of several books\, most recently Is It Racist? Is It Sexist? \n\n\n\nAnne Wright is a long-time social justice activist.  Over the last 40 years\, she has focused on the anti-intervention and environmental justice movements\, and on voter registration and education for low-income youth.  The sisters are both co-editors of the  Don’t Mourn Organize Eastern Mass substack\, an e-newsletter that recommends action alerts for progressives in the greater Boston area. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact Kate Holland at kholland@uuwayland.org and visit https://classmatters.org/activism-that-works/

SUMMARY:Monthly Training and Huddle-Maynard
DESCRIPTION:This a local Indivisible Maynard Area event. \n\n\n\nWe meet monthly from 6:30-8:30pm to get informed and to take action. Our next meeting is Feb 19. We will be joined by Sen Jamie Eldridge for the first part. He will share actions that can happen on the state level and ways we can help get the legislation over the finish line. The second half of our meeting will be devoted to taking action: we will primarily be packing whistles for ourselves and to distribute to our neighbors. Please bring a small donation to help cover the cost of whistles and materials especially for those who can’t come. We will also be collecting canned and dried packaged food to donate to community members in need. \n\n\n\n\nSpace is limited\, please rsvp for exact address\n\n\n\n\nSpace is limited\, so RSVP is required. If you would like to receive our emails on other events or join our group\, you can go to our webpage and join our group there: indivisiblemaynard.org \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:Ground Truth Canvass Training
DESCRIPTION:Thank you for signing up for a Ground Truth canvass! Together\, we can transform how we talk with voters\, rebuild trust\, and swing the most competitive races for Democrats. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an in-depth training before you hit the doors\, where we’ll go over:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe strategy behind the Ground Truth program\n\n\n\nWho we’ll be talking to\, and what we’ll be saying\n\n\n\nTips for effective conversations using our empathetic listening script\n\n\n\nHow to use the canvassing app\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign up for a training anytime before the canvass you’re attending. The closer you can join to when your actual canvass is\, the better\, since we’ll be making changes and improvements each week. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile this training is optional\, we highly recommend attending – this is a different kind of canvassing than most of us are used to\, using a brand new canvassing app. If you can’t make it to the training\, please reference the materials we send out in advance to make sure you’re up to speed before you arrive at the canvass. Your canvass lead will have time for a short on-site training before you start knocking. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Details\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:Standout to SUPPORT IMMIGRANTS - No Fear Street Theater
DESCRIPTION:Speechifying\, Shakespeare\, & Sea Shanties! Every week\, we stand on Burlington Mall Road with signs\, costumes and flags. We come out to show support for our immigrant neighbors\, express our shame at ICE\, and build community in opposition to the cruel and unconstitutional actions of our government. We are there to tell the world that there is a ICE CONCENTRATION CAMP just two blocks away.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are not there merely to make propaganda against ICE. We are there to make propaganda against fear. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery car that honks in support as they pass is in a small way joining the Resistance. Many who honk may be expressing themselves against ICE terror for the first time. This breaks the ice\, and makes it easier for them to take the next steps. It helps them help others to overcome their fear. We are there to cause a ripple effect. To fight against the terror visited on immigrants\, we need to fight against our own internalized terror. We have nothing to fear. We are America\, fighting back. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you REGISTER by FRIDAY\, you will be notified of cancellations by email. All events held rain or shine & only cancel for large storms or high winds. We recommend dressing comfortably for the weather and bring a water bottle. Bring your sign in support of Immigrants or you are most welcome to use one of the ones we have on hand.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a creative\, participatory protest. If you support immigrants and their constitutional rights\, join us! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.nofearstreettheater.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61584725253124\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPARKING\, PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION & other INFO: This is an outdoor event held at our standout area at the CORNER of MALL ROAD & DISTRICT AVE. The sidewalk area has a paved area and also a grassy area with trees in the background. There is some PARKING about 2 blocks away. Please NOTE: parking that is closer to the standout is private parking & reserved for staff and customers of the businesses and shopping center. ( Some cars have been towed from the private parking\, so we recommend that people chose other options.) Parking info. for the recommended parking areas will be sent to registrants. Public transportation is also available through the MBTA 350 route\, LexExpress & LRTA all of which have stops within 1 block of our standout area.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Latest Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis a local INDIVISIBLE event! A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
