SUMMARY:Can -- And Will -- the Judiciary Save Us?
DESCRIPTION:The role of the Judiciary is to uphold the Constitution and serve as a check on the other branches of government. But under the Trump Administration\, the Supreme Court has been compromised; the Department of Justice has been weaponized; and the Constitution has been undermined. \n\n\n\nSo who can we count on to resist Trump’s unconstitutional agenda? The answer in the first year of the Trump regime has been a series of very brave and principled federal judges. They have blocked some illegal deportations; mandated the continuation of SNAP benefits; and halted an executive order restricting birthright citizenship to name a few lines of resistance. Moreover\, they have done so despite being accused of being liberal activists or out of touch with everyday Americans. And their actions have made them the targets of intimidation and subjected to death threats by MAGA extremists.  \n\n\n\nThe question now is can the Judiciary hold the line on Trump’s lawlessness during the remainder of his presidency? And\, if they don’t\, what does that mean for the Constitution? Join us for a panel discussion on the role of the Judiciary in the Trump era. We’ll look at the cases where federal judges have successfully resisted Trump’s lawlessness–and where they did not. We’ll examine how the Supreme Court has been compromised and discuss possible solutions. SUMMARY:Community Resilience\, Readiness and Resistance Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Building our capacity for resilience is an important component of the community organizing work we’re doing here in eastern Massachusetts. The current administration is going to be in power at least through January 2029. That is 30+ more months. They have only been in power for 12 months so far\, which means that we are only about 20% of the way through this presidential term. Figuring out ways to stay engaged will be critical because we are all needed – particularly as we become more comfortable with being engaged in resistance activity and as we move into noncooperation activities. We can each find our own ways of making this work sustainable but it will take some openness to learning\, experimentation\, and practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the face of increasing authoritarianism\, this workshop will provide a framework for cultivating readiness and resilience as foundations for long-term resistance\, personal and collective care\, and preparedness for other challenges that lie ahead. Participants will leave with concrete steps for building personal\, household\, community\, and organizational resilience and strengthening our movement to build a democracy that works for everyone. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFounded by Rebecca Riccio\, the BTC is a group of volunteer activists and organizers associated with a variety of racial and social justice-oriented organizations in Greater Boston.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n$10 Donation Suggested to support BTC and provide afternoon snacks!! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParking: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHighland Ave & Surrounding Streets: 2-hour visitor parking with meters.
