SUMMARY:Hands Off Beverly
DESCRIPTION:This a local Indivisible event! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHANDS OFF BEVERLY has been holding weekly peaceful protests since February 17\, 2025. On Saturdays we are typically between 130 and 400 people. On the big national days of protest (NO KINGS) we are in the thousands. We have signs and cowbells to borrow\, bubbles and the best music by our tireless DJ Jim. We have a permit from the Beverly Police Department and marshals to assist people and answer questions. The best part of our protests are the people. You will have never met so many kind and wonderful folks who over the many months standing out in rain\, cold\, snow and heat have become a close knit family committed to not standing by in the face of the insanity and cruelty of the current administration. If you are peaceful you are welcome. Come and join the group with the best vibe on the North Shore! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Every Sunday from noon to 1:30pm we line the street around our Common and hold signs that are relevant to fighting for our Democracy. We are in this together and helping our community in this small way is an act of empathy\, understanding and kindness that we encourage. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:Block by Block - Phone Bank with SURJ! (Win Primaries for Progressive Champions in CA\, ME & MI!)
DESCRIPTION:Come phone bank with SURJ!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are now in a decisive phase of the fight against authoritarianism\, the threat is real and the stakes are high. And people are fighting back. Millions have protested\, and we’ve watched powerful organizing coming out of Minneapolis\, Chicago\, and other cities that have borne the brunt of ICE’s assaults on our communities. Mass anger exists\, but mass organization does not yet exist at the scale needed to win. Movements become real when they reach millions: organized\, trained\, and acting together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome take action with SURJ! We’ll be calling voters about primary races working to elect progressive champions in key states and districts to ultimately take back BOTH the House and Senate this November. These races include: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRandy Villegas\, who is a 30-year old son of immigrants and activist for immigrant rights in his area. He is an elected school board trustee in Visalia\, CA and political science professor who is running to represent California’s 22nd congressional district\, representing Bakersfield and portions of the central valley.\n\n\n\nGraham Platner\, who is a Marine\, U.S. Army veteran\, and oyster farmer running to be the next Senator to represent Maine.\n\n\n\nWill Lawrence\, who is an organizer and coalition-builder with experience speaking truth to power and getting results at the local\, state and federal level running to represent Michigan Congressional District 7 in Lansing.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome as you are! No experience needed! Full training & lots of support included! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCandidate Schedule:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVillegas for CA Congressional District 22 – 5/23 5/28\, 5/30\, 6/2 (Election day)\n\n\n\nPlatner for Senator in ME – 6/6\n\n\n\nLawrence for MI Congressional District 7 – 6/14\, 6/18\n\n\n\nCandidate TBD – 6/20\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLogistics:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese phone banks are online on the Zoom platform. Log into the call on Zoom on your computer and bring your phone to make the calls (if you only have one device\, still come!).\n\n\n\nWe have a robust training on the call to give you all the information you need — a script\, technical support\, and coaching throughout.\n\n\n\nReturners can start early.\n\n\n\nYou will receive an email with orientation materials ahead of time.\n\n\n\nPlease note the time zone for call time.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeeling Unsure?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur model works – learn from the best! Our phonebanks have one of the highest rates of success in the country. No matter whether you’re brand new caller or a seasoned organizer\, if you join our banks\, you can trust that you are putting your effort into a method that works. And you’ll get to learn powerful organizing skills from seasoned leaders!\n\n\n\nOur conversations are based on open-ended questions and deep listening. You do not need to be an expert on the issues or a candidate – our phone banks are successful because we deeply connect with voters and make them feel heard.\n\n\n\nWant to hear what a phonebank is like? Check out this video interviewing SURJ phonebankers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContext:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs Trump and republicans defund the social safety net and peddle more racist lies\, millions of people are increasingly feeling the effects of the billionaire agenda. We know this fight is on multiple fronts\, and this fall we have an opportunity to harness the energy of the streets and rising resentment towards November’s elections – to not only wrest power from MAGA\, but to put candidates in office who are willing to stand up to Trump and fight for working class people. BOTH the House AND Senate are in play for Democrats to take back control and this year we aim to put progressive working class champions in a position to WIN. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the last six years\, SURJ’s phone banking program has grown to be one of the strongest in the country\, reaching millions of working class people with our vision of finding our shared interest in standing alongside people of color and rejecting white supremacy. This year is an opportunity to deliver strategic blows to the MAGA agenda and throw down a gauntlet to force the Democratic Party to reckon with true progressive\, working class fighters. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo do this\, we’re focusing on key House districts in California and New York between April and June in addition to a critical Senate race in Maine. In July and August we will shift focus to primaries for key House districts in Minnesota and Michigan. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese races will affect millions of working class people this year. Our work on Primary races this spring and summer will set us up to add more progressive champions to the halls of congress and take back power this November. We will continue to build power to stop MAGA\, by supporting unapologetically progressive working class champions. Alongside our partners across the country\, this is the time for our movements to offer a bold vision and bring our people into it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout SURJ:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShowing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is the largest organization in the country that explicitly organizes white communities for justice. Instead of choosing racism\, silence\, or complicity\, we help white communities choose justice. We have thousands of national members and 150+ chapters across the US and Canada.

SUMMARY:YAS Queens: No Kings Standout
DESCRIPTION:Indivisible and the national No Kings coalition are calling for another day of nationwide resistance action on June 14\, the one-year anniversary of the first No Kings protest and the day Trump will stage a UFC fight at the White House to celebrate his 80th birthday. June 14 is also Waltham Pride– an event that is particularly meaningful in the context of an Administration and Republican Party that remain hell-bent on making life as hard as possible for our trans community members as part of a broader campaign of oppression towards queer people and people who identify as or are perceived as women. \n\n\n\nIndivisible Waltham will have a table at Pride from noon-4pm and we invite you to stop by our table to connect\, fill out some postcards (or pick up a postcard pack to fill out later and share with friends)\, get some of our newest “I will vote” stickers\, and learn about the plans we’ve been starting to cook up for how to support voter turnout efforts heading into the fall elections. \n\n\n\nNo Kings\, Yaas Queens dance-themed standout after Waltham Pride \n\n\n\nIn consultation with our friends on the Pride organizing team\, we’re organizing a standout immediately following Pride from 4:00-5:30pm on the sidewalks of Main and Moody Street\, adjacent to but not directly on the Common\, as Pride vendors will still be breaking down and cleaning up on the Common. This will be a Pride-themed celebration as protest\, a way to be visible together in community and remind those who count on our apathy that we are not going away and not going to cede our power or our ability to exercise our rights even in the face of intimidation tactics aimed at suppressing and discouraging protest locally and nationally (those Flock cameras are not going to keep us away!)We will take up space\, we will be visible\, we will be loud\, we will dance\, and we will continue to build community and people power. We hope you join us and invite your friends too! There is a digital poster at the end of this newsletter that you can feel free to share with your contacts. \n\n\n\nHow you can help: Bring some extra Prime-themed posters to share! \n\n\n\nWe will be promoting the standout at our Pride table\, and hope that folks who attend Pride who might not otherwise know about our work decide to stay for a bit and join us in the standout. Knowing people are unlikely to bring posters to Pride with them\, it would be very helpful if those of you who will be coming directly to the standout could bring extra posters\, so folks who join without prior planning have a sign they can use.  We’d like the theme to be celebratory\, de-centering or minimizing Trump (as he is a wannabe King with waning relevance and power) and lifting up diversity in all its beautiful forms\, particularly diversity of gender expression\, sexual orientation\, and freedom of expression.

SUMMARY:Bridging the Political Divide: Tools for Constructive Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the monthly meeting of the Indivisible Westford Progressive Massachusetts chapter. This month: \n\n\n\nBridging the Political Divide: Tools for Constructive Conversations \n\n\n\nDemocracy runs on the open exchange of ideas\, but it’s not always easy. We can’t change minds overnight\, but with the right tools we CAN build greater understanding\, and earn the respect of people with a range of political views. \n\n\n\nCome and share your personal experiences on what works and what doesn’t and get some expert advice. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nWe’re thrilled to host Alix Smullin\, one of the founders of Swing Left North Shore/Cape Ann who has extensive experience with voter outreach. \n\n\n\nAlix has been talking politics for many years\, both professionally and as a volunteer. She’ll show us how it’s done\, with concrete examples and suggestions for having better conversations. She will also fill us in on Swing Blue’s Ground Truth program\, which is using some of these techniques to improve political outcomes.

SUMMARY:Rise Up\, Sing Out-Find One Near You
DESCRIPTION:Trump will be marking his birthday once again with made-for-tv spectacle. This time\, instead of emulating dictators with a military parade\, he’ll be playing Roman emperor with a cage match for his amusement at the White House. \n\n\n\nThe Committee for the First Amendment\, with enthusiastic support from the No Kings Coalition\, will be counterprogramming his little stunt with a nationally livestreamed concert featuring prominent activists and musicians.  \n\n\n\nBut ours won’t be mere spectacle. We’re inviting folks to host house parties around the country to build local power around anti-authoritarian defiance. Lots of Indivisible groups already have events planned\, but you don’t need to be a group leader to invite a few friends over and use our organizing toolkit to plan local actions.  \n\n\n\nAnd for those who tune in on their own\, we’ll be offering calls to action around voting\, election protection\, and defense of our First Amendment rights.  \n\n\n\n\nWatch from Home\n\n\n\nHost a Watch Party\n\n\n\n\nYou can find more info at the Rise Up and Sing Out website. \n\n\n\nNote: Many of these events are taking place in private homes. Her stories in song are poignant\, heart-felt\, hilarious\, rousing\, timely and timeless. In addition to her solo career\, Sue has joined forces with the rising Ithaca-based band Autumn Sun. \n\n\n\nWith one foot planted firmly in the spiritual Jewish music world\, and the other in the singer-songwriter world\, Sue has over 20 years of national touring experience\, from large festivals to congregations to intimate house concerts. This York Beach\, ME artist has 6 albums of original music\, and her latest albums “Rainy Nights and Rearview Windows” and “Strings\, Wings\, and Curious Things\,” topped the Folk Radio charts. Sue’s sound is a blend of American and Folk\, while also drawing influences from blues and classic rock\, making each song unique. More about Sue \n\n\n\nEric Kilburn’s songs run the gamut from poignant to hilarious\, from the personal to the political. He’s got a knack for simple insights that sneak up on you. Eric’s been writing and performing music since college\, but he got serious in 1981\, when Pete Seeger heard his music and encouraged him to create more songs. \n\n\n\nOver the past forty-five years he’s toured extensively around the eastern U.S.\, released seven critically acclaimed albums\, and co-parented two beautiful sons. His latest album Passages\, (released in February 2026)\, reflects on people and cultures going through changes and has generated rave reviews and extensive folk radio airplay. More about Eric \n\n\n\n\nChoose the Ticket amount or Donate

SUMMARY:Gun Violence Prevention on the Ballot
DESCRIPTION:You’ve probably seen signature collectors out in force for the ten campaigns currently collecting to get questions on the November ballot. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBut what you need to remember is that there are *11* potential questions\, as one question is already guaranteed a spot on the ballot. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThat’s because the gun lobby in the state collected signatures for a referendum on MA’s 2024 gun safety omnibus bill. It’s critical to remember as well that you vote YES to keep the law. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBut what’s in the bill anyway? And why is this so important? Join us on Monday\, June 15\, at 7 pm to learn more about the Vote Yes for a Safe MA campaign and how to get involved. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Details\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. SUMMARY:Strategic Thinking: Key Races Democrats Must Win in November
DESCRIPTION:Democrats are still favored to flip the House\, despite the Callais and Virginia Supreme Court Decisions\, as will be explained. Thereafter\, the key competitive districts that—if won—will allow Democrats to flip the House will be discussed. Finally\, though less likely\, flipping the Senate may be possible; plus\, it is essential that Democrats make progress in 2026 in order to capture the Senate in 2028. \n\n\n\nEd Loechler is a co-founder and data cruncher for Force Multiplier. He’ll walk us through how he uses numbers to choose races where time and money can be invested wisely. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates

SUMMARY:Bear Witness- Protest and Food Drive Wednesdays at ICE
DESCRIPTION:Updated with New Carpool and Parking Information! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBEARING WITNESS STANDOUT SCHEDULE AND GUIDELINES \n\n\n\nAbove all\, we are committed to nonviolence. \n\n\n\n\nThe standout takes place every Wednesday\, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom 11 am to noon\, Bearing Witness organizers and special guest speakers address those gathered and discuss a variety of immigration-related topics. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom noon-12:30 pm\, the loudspeakers are turned toward the ICE building and those gathered are invited to come up to the microphone and read parts of the U.S. Constitution. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom 12:30-1 p.m.\, the crowd turns and marches down District Avenue to Mall Road\, where we stand with our signs\, sing and chant\, and wave to passing motorists. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe ALWAYS stand peacefully with signs outside the ICE facility.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe ALWAYS hold signs with supportive messages about immigrants and/or against ICE. We do not focus on other issues. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe do not block the entrance\, approach ICE agents\, or block traffic on District Avenue.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe DO NOT stand in restricted areas as designated by Burlington police.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe IGNORE and do not engage with “counter protestors\,” those who are supporters of ICE.\n\n\n\n\nINTERACTIONS WITH DETAINEES AND ICE OFFICIALS\n\n\n\nImmigrants who are fortunate to leave the facility have shown gratitude for our presence and some share their stories with us. \n\n\n\n\nICE agents tend to cover their faces with masks\, many record us with their phones\, others give a smug smile or laugh\, though they rarely say anything.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe security officers stationed at the front of the building have not bothered us to date. \n\n\n\n\n\nMore Info & Email Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBEARING WITNESS CARPOOL SERVICE \n\n\n\n\nWe have a NEW volunteer-led carpool\, which operates from a few nearby parking lots. Availability is limited so sign up in advance is highly recommended\, but not required. You can request a ride – or volunteer to be a driver –  using this link (you will receive an email with full details about parking\, etc.):  https://tally.so/r/GxrQkO\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOTHER PARKING OPTIONS \n\n\n\n\nOther than the carpool option\, parking remains an issue for attendees. Please note that you will likely be towed if you park in any private lots along District Avenue or at the Burlington Mall. National Development\, owners of The District properties along District Avenue\, have contracted with Hunter Security Services and Murray’s Towing and will tow cars suspected of parked to attend the standout.  \n\n\n\n\n\nParking is no longer allowed at the AMC Burlington lot. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe MBTA 350 bus runs from the Alewife T stop to Burlington Mall Road. Exit the bus at the “Burlington Mall Road” stop\, opposite NE Executive Park\, which is at the intersection of Mall Road and District Avenue. \n\n\n\n\n\nIf you prefer a shorter bus ride\, you can drive to Burlington and park at the United Church of Christ (6 Lexington St.\, Burlington) or Temple Shalom Emeth (16 Lexington St.\, Burlington) and walk to the 350 bus stop at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Bedford Street.\n\n\n\n\nSIGNS FOR THE STANDOUT\n\n\n\nDue to the ongoing parking issues\, we recommend that standout attendees do not bring their own signs (it clearly shows the towing company that you’re heading to the standout).  \n\n\n\nInstead\, please consider borrowing a sign from the large selection offered by Bearing Witness at each Wednesday standout. Upon arrival ask any safety marshall (wearing an orange vest) for the location of the box of signs. At the conclusion of the standout\, please return the signs to the box.  \n\n\n\nIf you choose to bring a sign — and if you use our new carpool service feel free to bring a sign — please remember that this is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility and is not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside the ICE facility we must remain focused on immigration. Our goal is to come together across any political differences to show our collective support for immigrants and their rights. \n\n\n\nNeed help or ideas for making a sign? Follow these tips! \n\n\n\nBearing Witness attendees Tina & Jay continue to collect food pantry donations to help local immigrant families. You can drop off unopened food/health/household items by the tree.
