DESCRIPTION:Do you wonder what resistance actions are the most effective in standing up to the Trump Administration? \n\n\n\nThis interactive 90 minute workshop will present theory and case studies that will help us explore the most effective actions and tactics that can be used to create social change – including addressing the current threat to democracy in the US. \n\n\n\nSpecifically\, we will focus on 1) identifying and putting pressure on primary and secondary targets\, 2) learning about the importance of communicating with unlikely allies and mobilizing passive supporters\, and 3) using creative tactics that draw on cultural resonances of the target audience(s). \n\n\n\nInterspersed with learning and studying campaign case studies will be small group discussions and exercises designed to help participants apply concepts to goals and projects they care most about. \n\n\n\nThe workshop leaders have been social justice activists for many decades\, in movements including anti-nuclear\, anti-intervention\, housing rights\, youth empowerment\, voting rights\, climate change\, and classism awareness and action; and they have studied the research on social movement outcomes. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speakers: Betsy Leondar-Wright\, PhD\, is a long-time economic justice activist whose graduate studies focused on what makes social movements succeed. She is the author of several books\, most recently Is It Racist? Is It Sexist? \n\n\n\nAnne Wright is a long-time social justice activist. Over the last 40 years she has focused on the anti-intervention and environmental justice movements\, and on voter registration and education for low-income youth. Now\, with thousands of signatures–and more coming in every day!–we are ready to drop this fat stack of paper off with our legislators to show them the support for Make Polluters Pay. \n\n\n\nJoin the Make Polluters Pay campaign on Tuesday October 21st to rally for a resilient future and drop off petitions with our elected officials. \n\n\n\nWe will meet on the statehouse steps at 10am. Bring your T-shirts\, your signs\, and get ready to show our power. We will have members from across our coalition.
