SUMMARY:Postcard Party
DESCRIPTION:Send hand-written postcards to voters in states that will play a key role in taking back Congress and in electing leaders who will fight back against the current authoritarian regime. Postcards educate voters\, urge them to register to vote\, and urge them to vote for specific candidates in special elections\, primaries\, and the November 2026 mid-term elections. Hand-written postcards have been proven in multiple studies to boost turnout enough to swing elections. Each packet of 15 postcards has everything you need\, and costs $10 to cover stamps and cards for those who can afford it. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nIt’s more fun to write together\, but if you can’t stay\, you can also stop by and pick up postcards to write at home.

SUMMARY:Restoring the Promise: Immigration Policy and a Path Forward
DESCRIPTION:Restoring the Promise: A Conversation with Attorney Antonio M. Viana\n\n\n\nWant to better understand the inner-workings of the immigration process in Massachusetts? Want to be a more informed advocate for all members of your community\, regardless of citizenship status? Join us for a conversation about immigration policy and the path forward.  \n\n\n\nAntonio M. Viana\, Managing Attorney and founder of Massa Viana Immigration Law\, has been a tireless advocate for immigration justice and civil rights over the course of his career. We are so excited to have him at the library for a conversation about his path to becoming a lawyer\, the passion behind his work\, and how we can all be a part of fighting for immigrants’ rights\, dignity\, and safety.   \n\n\n\n\nRegister here\n\n\n\n\nAbout Antonio M. Viana:  \n\n\n\n“Antonio is passionate about immigration law\, civil rights\, and constitutional issues\, as well as about the clients he represents. He founded Massa Viana Law with the goal of creating a firm guided by the principles of excellency in advocacy\, mutual respect\, and most importantly\, of service. \n\n\n\nAn immigrant himself who first moved to the United States when he was 12 years old\, Antonio tackled the immigration system first in his own personal life. He discovered that many times\, in order to succeed\, you need to push the envelope and not give up\, despite the odds. That vision is employed daily in his firm\, where attorneys and staff are encouraged to seek creative legal solutions for difficult problems\, even when the answers are not readily apparent. \n\n\n\nThis never-give-up attitude allowed Antonio to become the first known undocumented immigrant attorney in Massachusetts. He attended Roger Williams University School of Law\, where he was the first Latino Editor-in-Chief of the RWU Law Review\, as well as winner of the Esther Clark and National Religious Freedom moot court competitions; he sat for the bar exam in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Rhode Island would postpone his bar admission until he became a legal resident\, but Massachusetts swore him despite his lack of legal status. Antonio started practicing immediately in immigration removal defense. \n\n\n\nAntonio\, together with his team\, have helped hundreds of people—from those seeking refuge within our borders\, to victims of violence and crimes\, to those looking to once again be reunited with their loved ones—achieve their dreams of legal residency and citizenship.”

SUMMARY:Bear Witness- Protest and Food Drive Wednesdays at ICE
DESCRIPTION:Updated with New Carpool and Parking Information! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBEARING WITNESS STANDOUT SCHEDULE AND GUIDELINES \n\n\n\nAbove all\, we are committed to nonviolence. \n\n\n\n\nThe standout takes place every Wednesday\, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom 11 am to noon\, Bearing Witness organizers and special guest speakers address those gathered and discuss a variety of immigration-related topics. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom noon-12:30 pm\, the loudspeakers are turned toward the ICE building and those gathered are invited to come up to the microphone and read parts of the U.S. Constitution. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom 12:30-1 p.m.\, the crowd turns and marches down District Avenue to Mall Road\, where we stand with our signs\, sing and chant\, and wave to passing motorists. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe ALWAYS stand peacefully with signs outside the ICE facility.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe ALWAYS hold signs with supportive messages about immigrants and/or against ICE. We do not focus on other issues. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe do not block the entrance\, approach ICE agents\, or block traffic on District Avenue.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe DO NOT stand in restricted areas as designated by Burlington police.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe IGNORE and do not engage with “counter protestors\,” those who are supporters of ICE.\n\n\n\n\nINTERACTIONS WITH DETAINEES AND ICE OFFICIALS\n\n\n\nImmigrants who are fortunate to leave the facility have shown gratitude for our presence and some share their stories with us. \n\n\n\n\nICE agents tend to cover their faces with masks\, many record us with their phones\, others give a smug smile or laugh\, though they rarely say anything.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe security officers stationed at the front of the building have not bothered us to date. \n\n\n\n\n\nMore Info & Email Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBEARING WITNESS CARPOOL SERVICE \n\n\n\n\nWe have a NEW volunteer-led carpool\, which operates from a few nearby parking lots. Availability is limited so sign up in advance is highly recommended\, but not required. You can request a ride – or volunteer to be a driver –  using this link (you will receive an email with full details about parking\, etc.):  https://tally.so/r/GxrQkO\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOTHER PARKING OPTIONS \n\n\n\n\nOther than the carpool option\, parking remains an issue for attendees. Please note that you will likely be towed if you park in any private lots along District Avenue or at the Burlington Mall. National Development\, owners of The District properties along District Avenue\, have contracted with Hunter Security Services and Murray’s Towing and will tow cars suspected of parked to attend the standout.  \n\n\n\n\n\nParking is no longer allowed at the AMC Burlington lot. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe MBTA 350 bus runs from the Alewife T stop to Burlington Mall Road. Exit the bus at the “Burlington Mall Road” stop\, opposite NE Executive Park\, which is at the intersection of Mall Road and District Avenue. \n\n\n\n\n\nIf you prefer a shorter bus ride\, you can drive to Burlington and park at the United Church of Christ (6 Lexington St.\, Burlington) or Temple Shalom Emeth (16 Lexington St.\, Burlington) and walk to the 350 bus stop at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Bedford Street.\n\n\n\n\nSIGNS FOR THE STANDOUT\n\n\n\nDue to the ongoing parking issues\, we recommend that standout attendees do not bring their own signs (it clearly shows the towing company that you’re heading to the standout).  \n\n\n\nInstead\, please consider borrowing a sign from the large selection offered by Bearing Witness at each Wednesday standout. Upon arrival ask any safety marshall (wearing an orange vest) for the location of the box of signs. At the conclusion of the standout\, please return the signs to the box.  \n\n\n\nIf you choose to bring a sign — and if you use our new carpool service feel free to bring a sign — please remember that this is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility and is not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside the ICE facility we must remain focused on immigration. Our goal is to come together across any political differences to show our collective support for immigrants and their rights. \n\n\n\nNeed help or ideas for making a sign? Follow these tips! \n\n\n\nBearing Witness attendees Tina & Jay continue to collect food pantry donations to help local immigrant families. You can drop off unopened food/health/household items by the tree.

SUMMARY:Justice 4 All Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:Greater Assabet Indivisible Network (GAIN) invites you to stand in solidarity with immigrants and resistance to ICE and their cruel and lawless detention of our neighbors Thursdays from 11am-1pm. Regardless of any other political views\, you are welcome to join us and demand Justice 4 All so long as you do so non-violently. \n\n\n\nOur friends at Bearing Witness have been hosting gatherings at this location for many weeks. We are an unaffiliated group\, but very much aligned with their values and mission. Our goal is to add to the total number of hours that citizens stand in non-violent opposition to the deplorable detainment conditions at this location. If you have been to Bearing Witness on Wednesdays\, we would love to have you at Justice 4 All Thursdays. \n\n\n\nSchedule \n\n\n\n11:00-11:30 Welcome; music; announcements11:30-12:30 Stand with signs along District Ave12:30-1:00 Optional short march down to Mall Rd. \n\n\n\n\nJoin the Email List\n\n\n\nRead past Substack articles\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime to Re-Stock\n\n\n\nComfort Cart Running Low on Food Staples \n\n\n\nNow that it is a 5-day/week operation\, the Comfort Cart can run low on food quickly. Please consider bringing a bag of food or donating cash using the Venmo QR below. \n\n\n\nYour generosity is always appreciated. Thank you! \n\n\n\n\n\nWeather \n\n\n\nAll attendees are ultimately responsible for making their own decisions about travel.  The organizers are going to use the following guidelines to modify or cancel events in advance.  A sudden change in conditions just before or during events\, such as a tornado warning or severe thunderstorm warning\, could happen and organizers will do their best to communicate any decisions appropriately. \n\n\n\n\n\nNo change to event:Normal to heavy RainWindy\, but no warningsLight snow on ground\, but not falling \n\n\n\nCancel:Burlington schools cancelledTemp/Wind Chill < 20FStorm advisory with snow or high wind predictedFreezing rain falling or predicted \n\n\n\n\n\nShorten event in advance\, limit to standout:Temp/Wind Chill < 30FTemp Ok\, but ground wetDeep snow in grassy area\, sidewalks clear \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat happens at this ICE office? \n\n\n\nICE personnel depart from District Ave. in unmarked vans with tinted windows on missions to abduct immigrants across New England. Immigrants may also show up at the office for appointments. The facility on District Ave was never intended to be a detention center\, yet immigration lawyers and media interviews reveal that people are now being housed here in conditions that have been called “abysmal” and “unsanitary.” \n\n\n\nWhat to expect at Justice 4 All? \n\n\n\nWe are committed to nonviolence\, and we stand peacefully with signs outside the facility. We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \n\n\n\nSigns \n\n\n\nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \n\n\n\nParking and other tips \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. There are restaurants nearby (Clover\, Pressed Cafe\, Chipotle) to get food and use the bathroom. \n\n\n\n\n\nBefore arriving\, please consider your own self-preservation (citizenship status) and self-care (sunscreen\, hydration\, etc.). \n\n\n\nIf you would like to receive updates on Justice4All Thursdays and reminders of our events\, please add your email below to join our list. We’re excited to reinforce the work of our friends at Bearing Witness and to support our immigrant neighbors. We hope that you will join us. \n\n\n\nSee you in Burlington! \n\n\n\n~Justice4All Thursdays organizers and the Greater Assabet Indivisible Network

SUMMARY:Block by Block - Phone Bank with SURJ! (Win Primaries for Progressive Champions in MI & MN!)
DESCRIPTION:Come phone bank with SURJ!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are now in a decisive phase of the fight against authoritarianism\, the threat is real and the stakes are high. And people are fighting back. Millions have protested\, and we’ve watched powerful organizing coming out of Minneapolis\, Chicago\, and other cities that have borne the brunt of ICE’s assaults on our communities. Mass anger exists\, but mass organization does not yet exist at the scale needed to win. Movements become real when they reach millions: organized\, trained\, and acting together. \n\n\n\nCome take action with SURJ! We’ll be calling voters about primary races working to elect progressive champions in key states and districts to ultimately take back BOTH the House and Senate this November. These races include: \n\n\n\n\nWill Lawrence\, who is an organizer and coalition-builder with experience speaking truth to power and getting results at the local\, state and federal level running to represent Michigan Congressional District 7 in Lansing.\n\n\n\nKaela Berg\, who is an organizer\, flight attendant\, union leader with AFA/CWA\, and a Minnesota State Representative. She has worked up to three jobs\, bought groceries from the dollar store to feed her family\, and lived without health insurance during a global pandemic and she is now running to represent Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District with an economic populist message. \n\n\n\n\nCome as you are! No experience needed! Full training & lots of support included! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCandidate Schedule:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLawrence for MI Congressional District 7 – 6/25\, 7/16\, 7/25\, 8/1\, 8/2\, 8/4\n\n\n\nBerg for MN Congressional District 2 – 6/18\, 8/8\, 8/9\, 8/11\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLogistics:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese phone banks are online on the Zoom platform. Log into the call on Zoom on your computer and bring your phone to make the calls (if you only have one device\, still come!).\n\n\n\nWe have a robust training on the call to give you all the information you need — a script\, technical support\, and coaching throughout.\n\n\n\nReturners can start early.\n\n\n\nYou will receive an email with orientation materials ahead of time.\n\n\n\nPlease note the time zone for call time.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeeling Unsure?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur model works – learn from the best! Our phonebanks have one of the highest rates of success in the country. No matter whether you’re brand new caller or a seasoned organizer\, if you join our banks\, you can trust that you are putting your effort into a method that works. And you’ll get to learn powerful organizing skills from seasoned leaders!\n\n\n\nOur conversations are based on open-ended questions and deep listening. You do not need to be an expert on the issues or a candidate – our phone banks are successful because we deeply connect with voters and make them feel heard.\n\n\n\nWant to hear what a phonebank is like? Check out this video interviewing SURJ phonebankers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContext:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs Trump and republicans defund the social safety net and peddle more racist lies\, millions of people are increasingly feeling the effects of the billionaire agenda. We know this fight is on multiple fronts\, and this fall we have an opportunity to harness the energy of the streets and rising resentment towards November’s elections – to not only wrest power from MAGA\, but to put candidates in office who are willing to stand up to Trump and fight for working class people. BOTH the House AND Senate are in play for Democrats to take back control and this year we aim to put progressive working class champions in a position to WIN. \n\n\n\nFor the last six years\, SURJ’s phone banking program has grown to be one of the strongest in the country\, reaching millions of working class people with our vision of finding our shared interest in standing alongside people of color and rejecting white supremacy. This year is an opportunity to deliver strategic blows to the MAGA agenda and throw down a gauntlet to force the Democratic Party to reckon with true progressive\, working class fighters. \n\n\n\nTo do this\, we’re focusing on key House districts in California and New York between April and June in addition to a critical Senate race in Maine. In July and August we will shift focus to primaries for key House districts in Minnesota and Michigan. \n\n\n\nThese races will affect millions of working class people this year. Our work on Primary races this spring and summer will set us up to add more progressive champions to the halls of congress and take back power this November. We will continue to build power to stop MAGA\, by supporting unapologetically progressive working class champions. Alongside our partners across the country\, this is the time for our movements to offer a bold vision and bring our people into it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout SURJ:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShowing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is the largest organization in the country that explicitly organizes white communities for justice. Instead of choosing racism\, silence\, or complicity\, we help white communities choose justice. We have thousands of national members and 150+ chapters across the US and Canada. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP for Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:Faith on the Front Lines: Faith Organizing Call
DESCRIPTION:Join Indivisible\, Interfaith Alliance\, Interfaith Immigration Coalition\, Church World Service\, and others to discuss how faith leaders can play a critical role in movements against unjust immigration enforcement and detention centers in our communities. SUMMARY:De-ICE Citizens Bank-Coordinated Day of Action
DESCRIPTION:Join thousands of people across the country to send Citizens Bank a clear message: financing private prison and immigration detention facility operators The GEO Group and CoreCivic is bad for business. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease bring signs specific to this action: De-ICE Citizens Bank; Cages Aren’t Communities; Citizens Bank – Stop Financing ICE Prisons; Citizens Bank + ICE = Human Rights Abuse; ICE Prisons Don’t Strengthen Our Communities; Citizens Bank – Cut Ties With ICE Prisons; etc. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCitizens Bank is bankrolling the country’s two largest prison companies that are earning record profits operating dozens of ICE detention facilities. While most major banks have cut ties with CoreCivic and The GEO Group\, Citizens Bank is deepening its financial support for these companies\, which are already holding more than half of the 70\,000 immigrants currently in ICE detention centers across the country. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRemember\, we want to be in solidarity with workers including bank branch employees. Treat everyone with respect and do not harass or film employees. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Coalition events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. We expect hosts to ensure all participants in your event uphold this commitment. We recommend all participants review a safety and security resource before your event\, such as https://indivisi.org/safety. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDon’t see your location?
