The standouts are peaceful and offer support for those who must show up here. Signs expressing support for immigrants are welcome. \n\n\n\n\nMore Info & Email Updates\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs far as we know\, the Mall is continuing to restrict parking to mall shoppers only. We continue to invite you to be creative while we work on a solution to this problem. If you scroll down further\, there are some suggested alternative parking possibilities. \n\n\n\n\n\nThere was a small group of counter-protesters again at the Saturday vigil\, and we may expect to see counter-protesters more regularly now. The important thing is to not engage with counter-protesters. Please ignore them. We will continue to peacefully exercise our first amendment rights. \n\n\n\nA weather reminder for our gatherings during the winter season — by default\, we will plan to gather\, and ask people to use their own judgment about what conditions are safe for them. Please do be safe. If Burlington schools close due to weather\, we will cancel the usual 11am-1pm public gathering and the organizing team will make some other arrangement to safely maintain the continuity of our vigil for that day that does not require the general public. \n\n\n\nAs usual\, this gathering outside ICE is a very targeted action; it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. We all care about many issues\, but each Wednesday we come together across differences. Regardless of your views on any other political or social issues\, if you support immigrants and their constitutional rights and are committed to nonviolence you are welcome to join us. We have a stash of signs and small U.S. flags that have been donated\, and you’re welcome to bring your own signs and U.S. flags if you have them. \n\n\n\nHere are some parking options that have been suggested\, while we explore a resolution with the mall or other options: \n\n\n\n\nFor those looking to switch to public transportation\, one option is the 350 Bus. This runs from Alewife to Burlington Mall Rd. You can park or bike to the Alewife T stop\, and the bus leaves Alewife at 10:46am and arrives at District Ave. at 11:15am.\n\n\n\nAlternatively\, you can drive to Burlington and park at Simonds Park\, at Rev. Andrew’s United Church of Christ (6 Lexington St. Burlington\, MA)\, or at Rabbi Abramson’s Temple Shalom Emeth\, 16 Lexington St.\,and walk to the 350 bus stop at the intersection of Cambridge St. and Bedford St. That bus leaves at 11:09am and arrives at 11:17am. If you’d like to arrive before 11:00am\, there’s a bus that leaves an hour earlier at 10:09am.\n\n\n\nYou can park at Wegmans. 53 Third Avenue. Burlington\, MA 01803. The Lowell LRTA #14 bus goes by there and stops at Lexington and Mall Rd. That bus is free.\n\n\n\n\nBearing Witness attendees Tina & Jay continue to collect food pantry donations to help local immigrant families. You can drop off unopened food/health/household items by the tree.

We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \n\n\n\nSigns \n\n\n\nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \n\n\n\nParking and other tips \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. DESCRIPTION:This a local Indivisible event! Our standout is comprised of a group of seniors who decided to do more than watch the news\, become upset\, anxious\, and feel powerless about what is happening in and to our country. We began a peaceful protest action to register our displeasure! We wanted to demonstrate in a way that empowered us and allowed us to take back some control and voice our concerns. Our motto is “WE MARCHED THEN\, WE MARCH NOW.” Since we range in age from the 70s to 90s\, we try to standout on Fridays from 1pm to 2pm. We standout weather permitting so we would not standout in the rain or snow. We are looking forward to warmer weather. See information about where parking is officially allowed and the risk of being towed in the District Ave Area on the What to Expect page of the Bearing Witness page. Note that no one has been towed since Jared and Laurie started protesting in April 2025. In order to be legally towned\, Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 266\, Section 120D specifies that in order for towing to occur you need to be warned by a sign or a person that parking is restricted. In addition\, the owner of the property must get permission from the chief of police or designee and provide certain information.

DESCRIPTION:Send hand-written postcards to voters in states that will play a key role in taking back Congress and in electing leaders who will fight back against the current authoritarian regime. Postcards educate voters\, urge them to register to vote\, and urge them to vote for specific candidates in special elections\, primaries\, and the November 2026 mid-term elections. Hand-written postcards have been proven in multiple studies to boost turnout enough to swing elections. Each packet of 15 postcards has everything you need\, and costs $10 to cover stamps and cards for those who can afford it. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nIt’s more fun to write together\, but if you can’t stay\, you can also stop by and pick up postcards to write at home.

DESCRIPTION:Come join us Monday and Tuesday 11-1 to protest ICE cruelties. \n\n\n\nWhere: Burlington\, MA: From 11–12 we hold signs on a busy street to communicate our message publicly\, and from 12–1 we gather outside the ICE office for a more informal time of signs\, speaking out\, connection\, and visible solidarity with immigrants while making our presence known to ICE.What to bring: A sign!Meeting point: Corner of Burlington Mall Road and District Ave\, closest to Pressed Cafe.After: Optionally join us for lunch at Pressed Cafe. \n\n\n\nParking near 1000 District Ave\, Burlington \n\n\n\nICE Jail\n\n\n\nFor a deep look at what happens inside ICE detention\, visit the full resource at https://bearingwitnessne.org/inside-ice \n\n\n\nInteractions\n\n\n\n\nImmigrants who are fortunate to leave the facility have shown gratitude for our presence and some share their stories with us.\n\n\n\nICE agents tend to cover their faces with masks\, many record us with their phones\, others give a satisfied smile or laugh\, they rarely say anything.\n\n\n\nThe security officers stationed at the front of the building have not hassled us.\n\n\n\nPassersby from nearby businesses often thank us for being there\, and many have shared that they never knew this was an ICE facility.\n\n\n\n\nParking for District Ave Protests\n\n\n\nThere is parking at busineses and on the street\, but there are risks. See information about where parking is officially allowed and the risk of being towed in the District Ave Area on the What to Expect page of the Bearing Witness page. Note that no one has been towed since Jared and Laurie started protesting in April 2025. In order to be legally towned\, Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 266\, Section 120D specifies that in order for towing to occur you need to be warned by a sign or a person that parking is restricted. In addition\, the owner of the property must get permission from the chief of police or designee and provide certain information.
