Join us for Solidarity Mobilizations\, a powerful two-part training series hosted by National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) and Solidarity Organizing Initiative (SOI). We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \n\n\n\nSigns \n\n\n\nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \n\n\n\nParking and other tips \n\n\n\nFor parking\, please use the Macy’s overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road\, follow signs for Macy’s\, see map). For those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. There are restaurants nearby (Clover\, Pressed Cafe\, Chipotle) to get food and use the bathroom. But there are ways we can fight back and protect our movement. \n\n\n\nWays to Be a Scambuster: \n\n\n\n\nReport misleading solicitations to Act Blue. Act Blue has recently adopted new policies to help prevent fundraising spam and scam operations from using their platform. You can report questionable fundraising appeals to Act Blue using this How-to-Doc.\n\n\n\nForward your spam text screenshots to the phone number 7726. That lets your phone service provider know that the text you are sending was spam.\n\n\n\nVolunteer to do research on Scam PACs. DESCRIPTION:Citizens Bank has provided $120 million in loans to CoreCivic\, one of the largest private prison corporations in the country. CoreCivic runs at least 65 prisons and ICE detention centers and has a history of running these facilities with violence and neglect. This is part of GAIN’s effort to coordinate our regional efforts to expand beyond our Burlington initiative\, Justice4All Thursdays\, coordinate our efforts to raise awareness\, and increase pressure on businesses supporting ICE to change their behavior. Grafton’s Indivisible Group is launching this effort-and people can help by showing up. DESCRIPTION:In place of our regular weekly protest\, the Newburyport Democratic City Committee will host a Tea & Toy Party Protest in honor of the Newburyport Tea Party (yes\, that happened here too!). It will be held on Saturday\, December 13th from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. (Note this event is longer than our weekly protest.) \n\n\n\nIn December 1773\, Newburyport residents burned shipments of tea in Market Square to protest the tea tariffs imposed by King George III and the British Parliament. \n\n\n\nNow we’re protesting the Trump tariffs – but instead of burning tea we will march from the Bartlet Mall to Market Square. Come out in your colonial best and we’ll protest in the 1773 spirit!! \n\n\n\nWeather permitting\, we will meet at the Bartlet Mall and march down Green Street to the Christmas tree and Menorah in Market Square. We will have a brief introduction at the Mall and then a speech or two in Market Square about the Newburyport Tea Party and how it parallels what we are going through today. \n\n\n\nTOY PARTY DONATION GUIDELINES \n\n\n\nWe welcome you to bring a new\, unwrapped holiday gift our gift card to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Salisbury. They asked us to provide the following guidelines: \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nPlease bring an unwrapped toy or gift card only. No clothing. Gifts should be geared for 1st – 12th graders.For middle and high school\, they recommend gift cards for food places like Duncan Donuts\, McDonalds\, pizza places (chains). Please purchase these in $10.00 increments. All gifts must be unwrapped. Thank you in advance to all who choose to bring a gift to our “Tea & Toy Party” protest. The crowd spilled out onto the common behind the meeting house and made a bonfire\, throwing the entire town’s supply of tea into it. \n\n\n\nEach year\, we reenact this occasion with a day of tea history! Join us for fun\, interactive activities to learn more about why tea was so important to the Revolution. Meet with the Lexington residents of 1773 to hear their side of the story\, find out where tea comes from\, and end the day by gathering around the fire and burning the tea! \n\n\n\nStop by for all the festivities: \n\n\n\n\nBuckman Tavern will be open 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM\, with holiday decorations. DESCRIPTION:Nathan Lockwood is Co-Founder and Director of Advancement & Strategy of Rank the Vote. He led the organization as Executive Director from June\, 2021 through 2024\, growing annual revenue ten-fold and leading the development of state partner organizations through their first staff hires and local campaign wins. Informing that work going back to 2017\, Nathan played a leading role in founding and growing Voter Choice Massachusetts both as the regional lead for Central Massachusetts and through various statewide roles. He also served on the board of directors of the Voter Choice Education Fund. Prior to his involvement in election reform\, Nathan was an elected official in the Town of Lunenburg for 7 years\, where he and his wife raised their two children. His career in the software industry spanned 25 years and included engineering\, design\, and management roles. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Yale University. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nAfter our speaker\, we will have an opportunity to do some specific actions related to his talk\, such as letter writing\, calls or related action.
