When King George III forced soldiers into Boston’s streets\, levied unjust taxes on imported tea\, and refused to hear the people’s voices\, the colonial patriots took a stand. On December 16\, 1773\, hundreds of colonists hurled tea into Boston Harbor in protest of King George’s tyranny\, in what some call the single most important event leading up to the American Revolution. \n\n\n\nToday\, a President who behaves like a king occupies the White House. DESCRIPTION:Please note there will NOT be a Witness Wednesday on Wednesday the 24th or Wednesday the 31st. We look forward to checking back in during the month of January about the status of these standouts! We anticipate that they will continue through January\, weather permitting. \n\n\n\nThe Massachusetts Constitution guarantees equal protection under all laws to all people\, regardless of nationality\, citizenship\, or immigration status. When due process is denied to any group\, it weakens the rule of law for all of us. The League of Women Voters supports due process for all persons\, including the right to a fair hearing\, the right to counsel\, the right of appeal\, and the right to humane treatment\, and that no person or group should suffer legal discrimination. \n\n\n\nJoin us for Witness Wednesdays starting July 23 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Plymouth County Correctional Facility\, where we will peacefully protest against due process violations and show support for ICE detainees. \n\n\n\nSafety Note \n\n\n\nThis is a heavy traffic intersection. We will follow safety protocols to avoid blocking street traffic. Review LWV peaceful protest guidance HERE. We will only be gathering along the sidewalk and grassy areas outside of the Facility and along the Sheriff’s office. \n\n\n\nLogistics \n\n\n\nSigns: We will have due process rights signs available. You are welcome to bring your own signs focusing on policies and not people. \n\n\n\nMessaging: Due to our nonpartisan nature and to ensure a coordinated effort\, we ask that all signs focus on issues related to supporting or advocating for immigrant communities and focus on due process or immigration policies. Anyone who arrives with a sign focusing on a particular politician\, candidate\, or party may be asked to remove their signage. \n\n\n\nParking is available at the Home Depot parking lot or the shopping plazas off of Long Pond Road in Plymouth. DESCRIPTION:Carlos Zapata Rivera\, the man who was violently arrested in Fitchburg with his baby in the car Nov 6\, has a check-in appointment at the ICE office at 10AM tomorrow. With the help of the ACLU\, he is suing ICE. The ACLU has reached out and asked if we could be there early. We will be there and set up at 9:30AM. He will go in for his appointment. We will likely carry on with our program (time uncertain) – but break immediately if we hear resolution. Of course\, we have no idea when that may happen\, so we will have to play it by ear. Please look for the donation boxes in the center of the rotary by the monument. \n\n\n\nIt’s best to park at Bay State Commons\, 600 Union Street\, and walk about 2 blocks to Main Street and the rotary. Please try to leave the parking spots closest to the Commons’ businesses open for business patrons. For people with mobility challenges\, there is limited parking on Main Street on a first come\, first served basis. Here are some important ground rules. We cannot disrupt traffic. Please stay out of the street\, and always use crosswalks. This is a peaceful protest. If someone becomes aggressive towards one of us\, we should all be ready to de-escalate the situation (don’t respond to the aggressor\, walk away\, find a volunteer with a reflecting vest or a Westborough Police Officer). Please look out for each other. DESCRIPTION:Standing out Home Depot Natick entrance sending a clear message to stop allowing ICE raids on their property and to boycott shopping there! \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nAll over the country\, ICE agents are targeting immigrants in and around Home Depot\, and these atrocities are happening on Home Depot’s watch\, on its properties\, with its silence. \n\n\n\nThe Home Depot has not publicly resisted or condemned these raids or demanded that the Administration stop assaulting and abducting people on and outside its properties. With its silence and inaction\, Home Depot has become ICE’s passive partner. \n\n\n\nIn order to show up for immigrant community members and defeat authoritarianism\, we must engage in the dual strategy of electing people who will stand up to Trump\, and engaging in noncooperation (also known as civil resistance). Movements with no civil resistance actions\, stopping democratic backsliding only happens 7.5% of the time. With a civil resistance added to the movement\, that percentage goes up to 51.7%! \n\n\n\nIn addition to this\, we need to run civil resistance campaigns that hit the power holders where it hurts! When we do symbolic actions like one day protests and vigils\, which are useful in their own way\, power holders can easily ignore them. When we engage in actions that cost money like a boycott\, cost elected leaders their seats\, or stop business as usual\, they are far more likely to respond. So we engage in noncooperation because we must impose real and tangible costs to powerholders’ bottom-lines! \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. DESCRIPTION:The First Parish in Bedford Public Witness Team invites you to join us for a candlelight vigil on the Common to honor Renee Nicole Good on Friday night\, January 9\, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM. This event is in addition to the regularly scheduled action Saturday morning at 10:00 AM.  \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nCandles will be provided. Rev. Jamie will offer a prayer. Dress warm\, plan for rain\, and bring an umbrella. In addition to standing on the Common silently with candles\, the action will include a procession that will loop along the Great Road on both sides\, using the Walk Signal at the South Rd. intersection and the crosswalk at Elm St.
