DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Neponset Valley Progressives and Dedham Democrats \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen shots were fired in Boston on March 5\, 1770\, colonists responded with outrage\, demanding a government that answered to and protected the people.  The parallels between events culminating in the Boston Massacre\, and those taking place today are striking. Like British troops back then\, ICE and CBP agents are occupying our cities to enforce\, even violently\, the whims of an autocrat. To highlight those parallels\, Neponset Valley Progressives and the Dedham Democratic Town Committee will sponsor a candlelight vigil in Dedham Square. On that date\, we will hold (already-created) signs bearing the names of each person killed by ICE and CBP along with those who have died in ICE custody. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn March 5\, 2026\, we gather in that same spirit for a candlelight vigil to remember those who have died in ICE custody and to resist policies that strip people of their rights. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe need at least 50 people to hold signs memorializing the 40+ people who have died in ICE custody since early 2025. We will supply the signs and candles. Cuts to indirect costs at universities and research institutions further tear into resources for science education and research. Together with the cancelation of grant review panels and delays in payment of previously funded grants\, the administration’s actions place the entire scientific enterprise at risk. \n\n\n\nScience\, more than any other endeavor\, has been the engine of America’s success since WWII. Other nations envy our research community and send their best and brightest to train in our universities. It is important that we convey the value of our work in a way that is likewise clear to our own elected leaders as well as to voters and taxpayers. \n\n\n\n\nRegister for More Information\n\n\n\n\nAt this time of existential threat to the survival of science as we know it in the US\, it is time to stand up. DESCRIPTION:Brookline Rally for Democracy: Every Saturday at 1:00 PM | Coolidge Corner \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin members of three Brookline pro-democracy groups — indivisible Activist Evenings\, Brookline Pax\, and Speak Out\, Seniors! — for our weekly rally at Coolidge Corner. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe gather to raise our voices and our signs in defense of democracy\, justice\, and decency — and to stand united against the abuses of the Trump administration and the forces that threaten our rights and freedoms. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe stand for: \n\n\n\n• Immigrant rights\, human rights\, and racial justice \n\n\n\n• Free speech\, the Constitution\, and the rule of law \n\n\n\n• Access to health and healthcare for all \n\n\n\n• Protection of our planet and the future we leave to the next generation \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe choose empathy over cruelty\, peace over violence\, and hope over fear. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur rallies are peaceful\, spirited\, and uplifting — a chance to connect\, recharge\, and stand up for what matters.
