SUMMARY:Patriot's Day Justice Rally
DESCRIPTION:This Patriots’ Day\, while the rest of the state celebrates liberty\, join us to stand for those being denied it. \n\n\n\nMass 50501 is proud to support this event hosted by FixICE.org. \n\n\n\nWe are gathering at the Burlington ICE Detention Center located at 1000 District Ave in Burlington\, MA to protest\, bear witness\, and support immigrants. The event will include music\, a guest speaker\, and a time for community members to share their personal stories and reasons for showing up. Bring your revolutionary spirit and show immigrants we support them!! \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nYou can support immigrants by bringing non-perishable food items which are distributed to families on site. \n\n\n\nCarpooling & Transportation\n\n\n\nYou will be provided with information about parking and public transportation options upon registration. There is no public parking within a half mile of the facility. Cars parked on District Mall road and adjoining parking lots have been towed if they suspect you are a protestor. Go to https://fixice.org/patriotsrally for more details on parking and more. \n\n\n\nConditions Inside\n\n\n\nOn a quiet side street right behind the Burlington Mall\, immigrants are placed together in cells inside a featureless office building with no sign out front. Originally an administrative building\, people are now detained here\, sometimes for days\, and sleep on a cold floor under Mylar blankets. There is one toilet per cell\, under the watchful eye of a camera. There are no showers\, no handwashing sinks in the cells\, no windows\, no soap\, no food service facility\, no menstrual products for women\, no outdoor time\, and no visitors.

SUMMARY:De-Ice Citizens Bank- Protest at Annual Shareholder Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On April 23\, Citizens Bank will be holding their Annual Shareholder Meeting at its headquarters in Providence\, RI. In response\, a coalition of progressive organizations from the surrounding area will be holding a peaceful standout that we are calling “The People’s Shareholder Meeting to De-ICE Citizens Bank” outside of the headquarters building. \n\n\n\nWe will hold a press conference\, rally the people\, sing and chant our resistance\, educate the general public\, and create artivism to get Citizens Bank De-ICE’d! \n\n\n\nCitizens Bank publicly presents itself as a community-centered institution committed to social responsibility. Yet the bank continues to maintain key financial relationships with CoreCivic and The GEO Group: two notorious\, for-profit\, prison corporations that build and operate immigration detention facilities for ICE\, provide transportation services to ICE\, and operate prisons for mass incarceration. \n\n\n\nFor more information about Citizens Bank’s relationship to the private prison system\, go to www.De-ICECitizensBank.org. You can also contact the De-ICE Coalition at de.ICE.CitizensBank@gmail.com. \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Coalition events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Indivisible has a great safety and security resource you can review before the event: https://indivisi.org/safety. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nWear weather appropriate clothing\, bring water and a snack. \n\n\n\nSign Ideas: Cages Aren’t Communities De-ICE Citizens Bank Citizens Bank: Invest in Communities\, Not Cages End Mass Incarceration Say NO to CoreCivic and The GEO Group No Banks for Cages \n\n\n\nThings to note: Parking is either on-street metered or paid parking garages/lots. There are numerous in the area. Public restrooms are located inside the Providence Train Station which is a block north from the standout. \n\n\n\nEditor’s Note: We don’t usually promote events outside of Massachusetts\, however\, this important protest is just about an hour outside of Boston.

SUMMARY:Communities Not Cages -- Brockton standout
DESCRIPTION:Reporting shows that DHS/ICE are actively scouting\, purchasing\, and planning to convert approximately 23 warehouses nationwide into new immigration detention and processing facilities. These sites are expected to detain between 1\,500 and 10\,000 people each\, signaling a massive expansion of detention capacity and the normalization of large-scale confinement in facilities built for storing things\, not imprisoning people. \n\n\n\nSome of the people confined in these warehouses might be our neighbors from here in Brockton. \n\n\n\nLocal action has already forced the cancellation of some of the proposed facilities. Further action is possible. \n\n\n\nAlthough no new facilities have appeared in Massachusetts so far\, ICE is already holding people at their Burlington office and at the Plymouth County House of Corrections. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for exact location\n\n\n\n\nDetention Watch Network is spearheading a National Day of Action on April 25. Come to a Communities Not Cages standout hosted by Brockton Indivisible! Bring flags to wave\, and signs showing solidarity with our immigrant neighbors\, and efforts to force the federal government to treat detained people humanely. \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:May Day Standout
DESCRIPTION:Join Indivisible Maynard Area on Friday May 1 from 4:30-5:30 pm at Veterans Memorial Park in Maynard to stand with workers and unions. We are asking that folks recognize this day with no shopping\, no work\, and no school to bring attention to the corruption and greed that are attacking our values\, our freedoms\, and our livelihood. We are becoming both an oligarchy and a kleptocracy. Billionaires and corporate interests have been amassing more power. Our wealth gap has been growing on the backs of workers while our services have been dwindling. We need to stand up with a common voice to tell our government that they represent the people\, not corporations. \n\n\n\nTogether we demand: \n\n\n\n1) Billionaires pay their fair share of taxes so that our communities come first \n\n\n\n2) Funds be used to protect and strengthen Medicare\, Social Security\, and other public programs we rely on\, not to subsidize corporations and give tax breaks to the ultra wealthy \n\n\n\n3) Health care\, public schools\, and affordable housing be fully funded and accessible \n\n\n\n4) Elections represent the will of the people rather than corporate interests and the wealthy few. \n\n\n\n5) The protection of immigrants\, those with disabilities\, LGBTQ+ people\, communities of color\, and Native communities against bigoted\, discriminatory\, and dangerous policies. \n\n\n\n6) Workers earn a living wage. (Did you know in MA farm workers have a min. wage of only $8 per hour?!) \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nCome join us at Veterans Memorial Park from 4:30-5:30pm in Maynard #WorkersOverBillionaires \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SUMMARY:May Day - Boston
DESCRIPTION:The next major national action isn’t another protest – it’s flexing our collective economic and non-cooperation muscle. Earlier this year\, Minnesota residents organized a Day of Truth and Action\, where teachers\, faith leaders\, workers\, students\, and business leaders refused work\, school\, and shopping on a single Friday in January to send a powerful message of resistance to the actions of the Trump administration and its corporate enablers. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP and and get updates\n\n\n\n\nHere in MA\, actions are being organized by unions and immigrant groups. The focus will be on building local power\, protecting our neighbors\, strengthening our capacity for noncooperation\, and defending our elections from sabotage. There are already events being planned for Boston\, including a rally on the Common at 4:30 PM. As more Boston actions are finalized\, they will be posted HERE.

SUMMARY:Citizens Bank: Stop Financing ICE Prisons!
DESCRIPTION:eep the pressure on Citizens Bank to get out of the ICE business! \n\n\n\nCitizens TALKS a lot about valuing diversity and building strong communities. But they KEEP QUIET about how\, behind the scenes\, they are financing private prison companies to lock up ICE detainees under inhumane conditions. \n\n\n\nAfter their annual shareholders meeting\, the CEO was quoted as saying they MIGHT meet with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization about this. A glimmer! Let’s keep pushing for concrete results! \n\n\n\nWe’ll stand out on the public sidewalk with signs and informational leaflets. We will urge Citizens Bank customers to contact local branch managers and the bank leadership in Providence\, RI with this message: because of Citizens’ investments in ICE\, I may close my account\, or I have already done so. \n\n\n\nWe will urge non-customers to express their anger to bank leadership\, and to also spread the word about the Citizens – ICE connection. \n\n\n\nOn May 2\, local folksinger Cooper Smithson will lead some easy songs about Citizens + ICE. \n\n\n\nPlease bring only signs specific to this Citizens Bank action\, such as: Citizens Bank: Stop Financing ICE Prisons! // ICE Cages Aren’t “Communities” // “Strengthen Our Communities”? Not with ICE Prisons! // Citizens Bank: Cut Ties With ICE. \n\n\n\nWe’ll have a few extra signs. Bring US flags too! \n\n\n\nDress for the weather. We will cancel only in case of extreme weather. Sign Up to receive event reminder and notice of any cancellation. \n\n\n\nBACKGROUND. Citizens Bank publicly presents itself as a community-centered institution committed to social responsibility. Yet the Bank continues to maintain key financial relationships with CoreCivic and The GEO Group\, two notorious\, for-profit\, prison corporations that build and operate immigration detention facilities for ICE\, provide transportation services to ICE\, and operate prisons for mass incarceration. \n\n\n\nFor more details about Citizens Bank’s relationship to the private prison system\, go to boycottcitizens.org \n\n\n\nThe action at Porter Square is led by Cambridge members of the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition comprising about 60 progressive organizations from over a dozen states in the eastern US (de-icecitizensbank.org/). \n\n\n\n\nRSVP for updates\n\n\n\n\nThe Cambridge group can be reached directly at ProtectingOurDemocracy76@gmail.com \n\n\n\nTHE ASK. The Coalition calls upon Citizens Bank to live up to its stated values by publicly committing to end its financial relationships with private prison and detention contractors. We stand out at the bank to send a clear message: corporations and financial institutions that enable harmful immigration and detention policies must be held accountable by the communities they claim to serve. \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all of these events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind\, including those legally permitted\, should not be brought to events. Please do not block sidewalks\, business entrances\, or traffic.
