SUMMARY:Get ICE out of Home Depot -Natick
DESCRIPTION:All over the country\, ICE agents are targeting immigrants in and around Home Depot\, and these atrocities are happening on Home Depot’s watch\, on its properties\, with its silence. \n\n\n\nThe Home Depot has not publicly resisted or condemned these raids or demanded that the Administration stop assaulting and abducting people on and outside its properties. With its silence and inaction\, Home Depot has become ICE’s passive partner. \n\n\n\nIn order to show up for immigrant community members and defeat authoritarianism\, we must engage in the dual strategy of electing people who will stand up to Trump\, and engaging in noncooperation (also known as civil resistance). Movements with no civil resistance actions\, stopping democratic backsliding only happens 7.5% of the time. With a civil resistance added to the movement\, that percentage goes up to 51.7%! \n\n\n\nIn addition to this\, we need to run civil resistance campaigns that hit the power holders where it hurts! When we do symbolic actions like one day protests and vigils\, which are useful in their own way\, power holders can easily ignore them. When we engage in actions that cost money like a boycott\, cost elected leaders their seats\, or stop business as usual\, they are far more likely to respond. Whether in her research lab or as a civic leader\, Danielle works on democracy renovation: a new way of thinking about and investing to strengthen our country. Democracy renovation reconnects people to civic life and redesigns our political institutions and civic infrastructure so people have the tools they need to be responsible and effective citizens— and politicians have the incentives they need to deliver responsive and accountable representation. \n\n\n\nDanielle is a founder of multiple civic organizations including the Civics and History Inquiry Partnership\, Educating for American Democracy\, and Partners In Democracy. She is the author of Our Declaration and Justice by Means of Democracy\, as well as the forthcoming Radical Duke: how one aristocrat-and the American Revolution—transformed Britain. A former columnist for the Washington Post\, she now writes for The Renovator. Join us for an official Marshal Training hosted by Worcester Indivisible. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re brand new to nonviolent direct action or just want to brush up on your skills\, this session will cover both NVDA essentials and marshal techniques — open to anyone ready to learn and support actions in any role. \n\n\n\nWe’ll cover:What is NVDA [Non-Violent Direct Action]What a marshal is and why they matterHow to cork intersections and control flowLeapfrogging techniques to support mobile protests/marchesDe-escalation tips and safety awarenessSignal App 101 for secure group communicationHow to support accessibility and inclusion on the ground \n\n\n\nAnd most importantly — how to keep each other safe while standing up for justice \n\n\n\n This training will be interactive\, and discussion based. You’ll leave with real tactics\, scripts\, and tools you can use right away. We’ll also go over what to do in case of police presence\, counter-protesters\, or emergencies. \n\n\n\nNo prior experience is required — just bring your curiosity\, your questions\, and your commitment to keeping our community strong.
