How and Where to Protest on Independence Day
July 4, 2025 All day
On July 4, 2025, we call on the people of Massachusetts to embrace the true spirit of Independence Day by celebrating freedom – and spreading the “No Kings” message – on the 249th anniversary of the original “No Kings” day.
- Attend your local Independence Day celebrations. Bring an American flag. Bring a Pride flag. Wear a “No Kings” shirt. Bring your “No Kings” signs.
Mass 50501 volunteers will be in various communities spreading the message. We’ll share our handouts here for you to print and hand out at your local July 4 celebration, too.
Speak to your friends, family, and coworkers about this movement at July 4 gatherings. Visit our blog for tips and talking points.

Marshfield Diversity Rally
June 30, 2025 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm EDT
Marshfield is always striving to be a more diverse community and welcoming to strangers. One way the town has done this is to issue proclamations recognizing communities in the town on specific days and months. Unfortunately, for the first time in three years, there was no proclamation issued to recognize Pride Month.
The reason there is no proclamation is that the chair of the select board had the Pride Proclamation line item removed from the agenda in an early June meeting. Thanks to the efforts of community members, advocates, and allies, the Pride Proclamation line item has been added to the agenda for Monday’s Selectboard meeting. At the meeting, the Pride Proclamation will be voted on by the full selectboard on the last day of Pride Month. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee Proclamation will pass.
This is why on Monday, June 30th, we are having a rally at the town green to show the select board that Marshfield is a community that supports diversity and inclusion. Starting at 5:00, we’ll meet at the town green on the corner of Moraine St. and Snow Rd. in Marshfield center. This is a family-friendly event, so please bring your G-rated signs expressing support for the LGBTQ+ community and the passing of the Pride Proclamation.

GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON: Charlton
July 17, 2025 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm EDT
Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.
On July 17, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, we’re taking action across the country to defend our democracy and carry forward his legacy of Good Trouble.
From voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act to the criminalization of protest, the Trump administration is launching a full-scale attack on our civil and human rights. But we know the truth: in America, the power lies with the people, and we’re rising to prove it.
This is more than a protest; it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.
Please note: A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON: “Voting Rights: The Struggle To Be Counted” (a film viewing/discussion)
July 17, 2025 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm EDT
Phil Portlock is a native Washingtonian, photographer, writer, film producer and social justice activist. With the creative use of images, music and narration by his wife Pat Sloan, the film “Voting Rights: The Struggle To Be Counted” traces the long and often brutal struggle by African Americans to obtain and maintain the right to vote. “A VOTELESS PEOPLE IS A VOICELESS PEOPLE”!
Our rights are under attack. Our democracy is under siege. We’ve been here before, and we know what to do.
On July 17, we honor the anniversary of the passing of civil rights hero John Lewis, not with ceremonies, but with action. Across the country, we will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.
This is more than a protest, it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.
Please note: a core principle behind our John Lewis Good Trouble Day actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
