Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.
On July 17, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, we’re taking action across the country to defend our democracy and carry forward his legacy of Good Trouble.
From voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act to the criminalization of protest, the Trump administration is launching a full-scale attack on our civil and human rights. But we know the truth: in America, the power lies with the people, and we’re rising to prove it.
This is more than a protest; it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.
Please note: A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
Phil Portlock is a native Washingtonian, photographer, writer, film producer and social justice activist. With the creative use of images, music and narration by his wife Pat Sloan, the film “Voting Rights: The Struggle To Be Counted” traces the long and often brutal struggle by African Americans to obtain and maintain the right to vote. “A VOTELESS PEOPLE IS A VOICELESS PEOPLE”!
Our rights are under attack. Our democracy is under siege. We’ve been here before, and we know what to do.
On July 17, we honor the anniversary of the passing of civil rights hero John Lewis, not with ceremonies, but with action. Across the country, we will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.
This is more than a protest, it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.

Please join us Wednesday in Beverly from 5:30PM-6:30PM in front of the First Parish Church at 225 Cabot Street to show we do NOT accept #47 Big Bogus Bill, illegal deportations, corruption, cuts to Social Security/Medicare, etc. This is especially important now considering the National Guard being called in in LA and this Saturday’s June 14 parade. Please make an effort to join us as we stand up and say Enough is Enough! Bring a friend or 2 along with signs/posters/flags.
This a local Indivisible event!

the State of MA is closing multiple shelters starting on June 30th, leaving many of the Haitian families there, already at risk, with nowhere to go. In response, we have identified and interviewed families that are – all are in the U.S. legally, have work authorization, are primed for self-sufficiency, and are desperately need help. And we have launched our Be the Movement. Welcome the Stranger campaign to engage grassroots networks of churches and activists across New England to help us spread the word with the goal of mobilizing groups of neighbors to come together and offer refuge and support to these families.
In America, the government doesn’t get to grab people off the streets, skip the courtroom, and send them straight to a foreign prison. Disappeared in America is a national day of action to stand up for the rule of law and confront the Trump administration’s illegal abductions, detentions, and deportations. On June 26th, we’re showing up to say: in America, we don’t let the government disappear people.
Black Voters Matters works to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. And while effective voting is an important way for a community to determine its own destiny, that’s only one way the organization strives to build power. In addition to voting and electoral organizing, Black Voters Matter supports community-based organizations working on a wide range of issues such as mass incarceration, gentrification, health care, education and more.
We are looking for volunteers who want to join our power building team and make a real impact. Each volunteer opportunity helps to increase voter engagement, supports protecting our right to vote, and gets us closer to our goal of building permanent, progressive power in Black communities! Start your power building journey by joining us on Tuesdays at 5pm ET for the volunteer orientation.
You will learn more about Black Voters Matter, what to expect as a volunteer, and the ways you can volunteer.
Invite friends, family, and colleagues to join you!
Please note, you only need to attend one volunteer orientation.
