Mark your calendars for Westford’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth event and celebration. As we hoist the traditional Juneteenth flag, we will be joined by representatives from the community to help us mark this occasion. This event marks an important statement about our town’s ongoing commitment to racial equity.
Immediately after the flag raising – approximately 10:30am – we will head over to the Parish Center for the Arts where we will be treated to a spoken historical account of Lowell’s abolitionist legacy by UMass Lowell Professor Dr. Robert Forrant. He will explain the hidden connections between cotton plantations and the New England textile mills. Discover how Northern and Southern lives were intertwined — and how both oppression and courage shaped the road to freedom.
