In place of our regular weekly protest, the Newburyport Democratic City Committee will host a Tea & Toy Party Protest in honor of the Newburyport Tea Party (yes, that happened here too!). It will be held on Saturday, December 13th from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. (Note this event is longer than our weekly protest.)
In December 1773, Newburyport residents burned shipments of tea in Market Square to protest the tea tariffs imposed by King George III and the British Parliament.
Now we’re protesting the Trump tariffs – but instead of burning tea we will march from the Bartlet Mall to Market Square. Come out in your colonial best and we’ll protest in the 1773 spirit!!
Weather permitting, we will meet at the Bartlet Mall and march down Green Street to the Christmas tree and Menorah in Market Square. We will have a brief introduction at the Mall and then a speech or two in Market Square about the Newburyport Tea Party and how it parallels what we are going through today.
TOY PARTY DONATION GUIDELINES
We welcome you to bring a new, unwrapped holiday gift our gift card to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Salisbury. They asked us to provide the following guidelines:
Please bring an unwrapped toy or gift card only. No clothing. Gifts should be geared for 1st – 12th graders. For middle and high school, they recommend gift cards for food places like Duncan Donuts, McDonalds, pizza places (chains). Please purchase these in $10.00 increments. All gifts must be unwrapped. Thank you in advance to all who choose to bring a gift to our “Tea & Toy Party” protest. The Boys and Girls Club is so appreciative — and we love the idea of expanding our outreach to include helping youth in our community.
The Protecting Massachusetts Communities Campaign is holding a pre-hearing rally at 9 AM in Room 428 at the State House and has also created this Social Media Toolkit to share information about the hearings. Some Indivisibles are planning to attend the hearings and would love to have you join them in Boston! If you’re unable to attend the hearings in person, you can watch them online using the hearing links above.
Next Tuesday, November 25, two state legislative committees have scheduled separate hearings for key bills to protect immigrants. We know many of you may be away or busy with holiday preparations, but please take a few minutes to email or call your state legislators about these important bills that IMC members recently endorsed. Get more information about actions to take, including suggested call scripts, in the Teams section below.Earlier this month, the Public Safety Committee scheduled a hearing for several immigration bills, including the Safe Communities Act, starting at 11:30 AM in Gardner Auditorium, the largest hearing room at the State House.
Join the Indivisible Mass Coalition statewide call on Tuesday, December 9, from 7 to 8 PM with guest speakers from LUCE and La Colaborativa for a panel discussion about what’s happening now with our immigrant neighbors and the best actions we can take. Submit a question for the Q&A with your RSVP HERE!
Stand out for Democracy We need no Stinking Kings. This will be our 9th monthly stand out Resist-Persist Repeat. As our past Rally’s we will also be hosting a Food Drive in conjunction with indivisible.
Building our capacity for resilience is an important component of the community organizing work we’re doing here in eastern Massachusetts. The current administration is going to be in power at least through January 2029. That is 38 more months. They have only been in power for 11 months so far, which means that we are only about 20% of the way through this presidential term. Figuring out ways to stay engaged will be critical because we are all needed – particularly as we become more comfortable with being engaged in resistance activity and as we move into noncooperation activities. We can each find our own ways of making this work sustainable but it will take some openness to learning, experimentation, and practice.
This two-hour workshop by the Boston Trainers Collective (BTC) is designed to promote collective resilience and community safety. Participants will be taught a framework for cultivating readiness and resilience as a foundation for long-term resistance, personal and collective care, and preparedness for the wide range of other challenges that may lie ahead such as climate-related crises, social unrest, and economic volatility. Participants will leave with concrete steps that can be taken immediately to start building readiness and resilience as individuals, organizations, and communities.
Founded by Rebecca Riccio, the BTC is a group of volunteer activists and organizers associated with a variety of racial and social justice-oriented organizations in Greater Boston.
Bring a friend or two! It’s a great workshop, even for those not involved in a movement.
Please contribute $10 via cash or Venmo when you arrive. This is to cover expenses – pizza, refreshments and a small thank you gift for trainers, etc.
Parking: there is a small (and regularly full) lot behind the library. Metered parking can be found along High Street and the perpendicular streets. There is also a public lot located one block away at 11 Governors Ave (Behind Colleen’s Ice Cream)
Due to the holiday, we are not standing out on November 28. Will will resume our regular Friday schedule in December.
This weekly afternoon standout is on Fridays from 1:30 to 3:00 at the Hanscom Rotary (intersection of Hanscom Dr. and Old Bedford Rd. in Lincoln, MA.) Please park along Old Bedford Road or Hanscom Drive without impeding traffic or blocking bike lanes.
De-ICE Hanscom is a coalition organizing peaceful standouts with the goal of eliminating ICE transport flights from Hanscom Field. ICE is using these flights to swiftly move immigrants out of New England in order to hinder effective legal representation.
Coalition groups include Boston Workers Circle, Concord Indivisible, Greater Assabet Indivisible Network (GAIN), Indivisible Acton Area, Jewish Alliance for Law & Social Action (JALSA), Lexington Alarm, and Maynard Indivisible.
Sign up to get information and updates about our weekly standouts. We’ll keep you in the loop if we need to reschedule or cancel for weather or other considerations, and apprise you of our goals and progress.
