Why: The owner of Cafe Escadrille also owns the ICE Prison/Field Office at 1000 District Ave. He has been silent on the abuses in his building, and has not aided the Town’s efforts to inspect for zoning & safety violations. We’ll keep visiting his restaurant until he’s ready to face the conversation.
Parking: down the street in front of the Burlington Ice Palace (this is Town property where you will not be towed. Please do NOT park at the Cafe Escadrille!)
Note: People often wear formal wear to this protest!
New to marshaling and de-escalation? Looking to refresh your skills? This two-hour workshop will provide principles and techniques for promoting collective care and de-escalating agitated, angry, and aggressive individuals at nonviolent street actions. Scenarios will be drawn from the facilitators’ deep experience as lead safety team coordinators in Greater Boston. About the Facilitators Claire Karl Miller (they/them) and Rebecca Riccio (she/her) have clocked hundreds of hours as community safety leads and trainers in some of Boston’s largest racial and social justice, democracy, and climate change events over the past eight years.
Join us Saturday, October 18, as we take to the Parade Grounds of Boston Common!
We’re standing together against the abuses of power, cruelty, and corruption of this Regime and saying with one voice — wicked loud —: “America has No Kings!”
Boston, we can’t stand by. We won’t back down. We will be at the Parade Grounds of Boston Common (Beacon & Charles St), a historic ground for resistance and assembly, we will show what organized, peaceful, nonviolent people power looks like.
Join the ACLU of Massachusetts, Indivisible Mass Coalition, Mass 50501, and partners from across the pro-democracy and pro-worker movement as we rise together. This is not a typical rally: learn how to get involved locally at our action tables, participate in creative resistance and enjoy entertainment on our main stage.
Boston is the birthplace of the American Revolution. No Kings is about defending that legacy — and stopping tyranny and authoritarianism in its tracks. This country doesn’t belong to strongmen. It belongs to us, the people. 💪 The power is in our hands.
Freedom isn’t free — neither are protests. Please help us raise funds for this event by donating here.
OUR CALLS TO ACTION:
Protect our immigrant neighbors who are being profiled, threatened, and kidnapped. Join a community ICE watch group so agents know we are watching them, volunteer to assist with vital mutual aid, bond and legal needs, and stand out in solidarity at ICE offices. More information from organizations, including LUCE, MIRA, BIJAN, and Bearing Witness @ ICE in Burlington.
Fight with your dollars: Hit them where it hurts by boycotting corporations and billionaires that are doing Trump’s bidding. Don’t check out at the checkout; patriotic dissent happens everywhere!
Hold your Reps accountable: Keep the pressure on and keep calling them out. Use the 5Calls app. Email and show up at their offices. If they can’t fix this, we’ll find others who will.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
Protest! Protest! Protest! Whether you are going to a No Kings 2.0 protest on October 18, a weekly protest in your town or the ICE facility in Burlington, how do we protest safely in this divisive time? We will discuss what your rights are as a protester, how to deal with disruptive individual(s) or difficult situations, what to bring and what not to bring and how to get your phone ready. Come ready to share your best practices, role play, and what to do if stopped by law enforcement.
Across the country, immigrant communities are under attack and authoritarian forces are gaining ground. But there’s a growing movement of people ready to take action with clarity, courage, and discipline. This training is for all of us who want to stand up in solidarity, especially those of us who are white who are ready to organize, respond, and show up with commitment and care.
Join us for Solidarity Mobilizations, a powerful two-part training series hosted by Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) and Solidarity Organizing Initiative (SOI). We’ll break down the political moment we’re in, the authoritarian playbook driving these attacks, and the role those of us who are white and/or citizens can play in pushing back effectively and strategically.
Each session will have live transcription and will be recorded. The recording will be sent out to everyone who registers within 48 hours after each session.
Learn to recognize and anticipate “Moments of Crisis” — and why they’re central to the authoritarian strategy
Understand how direct support and crisis response work together in immigrant justice organizing
Get grounded in the principles of strategic noncooperation and how it builds people power
Leave with everything you need to start a SURJ Circle and get organizing with your neighbors in your community
In the second session, you will:
Learn how to provide direct support for immigrant communities
Get clear on next steps you’re taking in your community
Whether you’re brand new or have been in the fight for years, this training will give you political clarity, strategic tools, and an invitation to join us in deeper solidarity. This is just the beginning, let’s get ready together.
Sean Ryder, Ph.D. is a Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biotechnology at UMass Chan Medical School. He is also the author of Everyday RNA: The Future of RNA Medicines, a textbook written to a lay audience that answers the questions “What is RNA?”, “What does it do in our cells?”, and “How is it being used to make medicines, including vaccines?”. His presentation will focus on the history of vaccine technology, beginning with the discovery that Cow Pox inoculation protects against Small Pox infection and concluding with the development of mRNA vaccines. The presentation is tailored so that anyone should be able to follow and understand without the need for an advanced science degree.
Spend a day with a professional artist and create resistance signs and posters to take home with you at the end. We will have professional artists work directly with you. No skills required.
