Vigil for TPS Families

July 29, 2025 @ 5:00 pm 6:00 pm EDT

The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program is under attack under the Trump Administration. Currently over one million immigrants from 17 countries are at risk of losing their TPS protection regardless of if it is safe to return to countries experiencing war and other disasters. Right now the Trump Administration has announced the termination of TPS for approximately 600,000 Venezuelans and 500,000 Haitians, 9,360 Afghans, 3,485 Cameroon, 7,505 Nepalese, 2,935 Nicaraguans, 52,585 Hondurans, but we know that is just the beginning of his attempts to remove people living in the United States legally.

TPS was created in 1990 by Congress to provide a clear process for America to live out its founding ideals by providing humanitarian assistance to people fleeing war and natural disasters. The people who receive TPS protections have become integral to local communities, we are your co-workers and neighbors, we shop at local businesses and we pay taxes that help improve the lives of everyone. Many of us have had children while living here who are US citizens that go to school with your children or are taught by you in your classrooms. Removal of TPS protections will have widespread impacts on 1.5 million people across the United States with TPS status, not to mention the millions of US citizen school aged children of TPS holders.

On July 29, attorneys representing the Alliance will present an emergency motion before a new judge, who has taken over this case, to protect families with TPS from these countries. It is critical for our communities to be visible and united at this moment.

Then, on August 1, the attorneys will present a motion before Judge Edward Chen, urging him to make a final decision in the case defending TPS protections for Venezuela and Haiti.

This is urgent: the Supreme Court removed emergency protections, and now Venezuelan families are already being deported to their country of origin.

We must stand together and show up to defend our communities and demand permanent protection for all TPS families.

The Comite TPS Massachusetts is one of the leading TPS Committees in the National TPS Alliance. We are reaching out today with urgency.

On Tuesday, July 29th,2025 at 5:00 PM, we will be holding a Vigil in front of the Federal Building in Boston to raise awareness and show solidarity with families at risk of losing their TPS protections.

Meet at City Hall Plaza in front of the John F. Kennedy Federal Building.

One Million Rising-Recordings and Toolkit

Indivisible National is launching a massive effort to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of noncooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design.

The first training was held on Wednesday, July 16, and broke Zoom with 150,000 people in attendance. You can review the recording here. And view the slides here.

Presenters emphasized that when the pillars propping up the wannabe king (for example, corporations, labor unions, faith-based institutions, educational institutions, civil servants, military/police) are no longer incentivized to capitulate, power shifts. Effective noncooperation on a large scale causes pillars of support to defect, or at least no longer reliably support the autocrat’s aims.

Presenters will go deeper into noncooperation tactics in upcoming calls scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, and Wednesday, August 13. Register here.

We Won More State House Transparency. What’s Next?

Virtual Event

July 21, 2025 @ 6:30 pm 8:00 pm EDT

In late June, the MA House and Senate passed new Joint Rules for the first time in six years.

That may sound wonky or arcane, but the rules govern who gets to participate in the legislative process and when and how. And because of activists like you, we were able to win real pro-transparency, pro-participation reforms.

But what do these new rules mean? How can we ensure that they lead to the progressive policies we want? And what other reforms are necessary?

Join Act on Mass, Progressive Dems of Mass, Progressive Mass, Mass Sierra Club, and 350 Mass for an update.
