We Won More State House Transparency. What’s Next?

Virtual Event

July 21, 2025 @ 6:30 pm 8:00 pm EDT

In late June, the MA House and Senate passed new Joint Rules for the first time in six years.

That may sound wonky or arcane, but the rules govern who gets to participate in the legislative process and when and how. And because of activists like you, we were able to win real pro-transparency, pro-participation reforms.

But what do these new rules mean? How can we ensure that they lead to the progressive policies we want? And what other reforms are necessary?

Join Act on Mass, Progressive Dems of Mass, Progressive Mass, Mass Sierra Club, and 350 Mass for an update.

Good Trouble Protests are a Success!

On July 18, over 1600 protests were held nationwide to honor the 5th anniversary of John Lewis’ passing.   They ranged from large protests in New York city to standouts held in smaller towns – many of them in red and rural areas. It is amazing that so many people turned out on a hot Thursday night.   This is important.  Protests against the Trump regime are now normal, dare I say expected, which should help attract more and more people to the movement.

Are we done?  No, of course not.  In Heather Cox Richardson’s July 17 Letters from an American, she told the amazing story of John Lewis, an ordinary person, called to DO SOMETHING TO RIGHT A WRONG.

Before Representative Lewis died, reporter Jonathan Capehart asked him “what he would say to people who feel as though they have already been giving it their all but nothing seems to change.” Lewis answered: “You must be able and prepared to give until you cannot give any more. We must use our time and our space on this little planet that we call Earth to make a lasting contribution, to leave it a little better than we found it, and now that need is greater than ever before.”

“Do not get lost in a sea of despair,” Lewis tweeted almost exactly a year before his death. “Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. We will find a way to make a way out of no way.”

“My philosophy is very simple,” Representative Lewis once told an audience. “When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, say something! Do something! Get in trouble, good trouble, necessary trouble.”

What is your next step?  Will you attend a One Million Rising Training?  Protest ICE? Organize an event?

Together we will prevail!

Good Trouble Lives On-Groton

July 17, 2025 @ 8:00 pm 9:00 pm EDT

The next national day of action is Thursday, July 17, 2025, to respond to the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump regime. Together, concerned Americans will remind the administration that in America, the power lies with the people. Coined by civil rights leader and Congressman John Lewis, “Good Trouble” is the action of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

Join Indivisible First Middlesex for a celebration of John Lewis’s life from 8 – 9 PM on the Groton Common (in front of First Parish Church of Groton and across from the library) to learn about John Lewis, reflect on our commitment to civil rights, light a candle, and sing songs. This is a family friendly event. Bring your family and friends. Dress for the weather and wear bug spray.

A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all of our words and actions. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
