Testify in Support of Stipend Reform
March 17 @ 11:00 am – 5:00 pm EDT
Last fall, Massachusetts progressives collected signatures for the stipend reform ballot question that would reduce the MA Legislature’s use of stipends or “loyalty pay” that makes legislators dependent on leadership for some of their salary. Now the Legislature has until early May to hold hearings and decide whether to pass legislation adopting the provisions.
On Tuesday, March 17, at 11am, the Special Joint Committee on Initiative Petitions, which is co-chaired by Senator Cindy Friedman, will conduct a hearing on the stipend reform ballot initiative (now filed as H.5010). You can testify at the hearing (in person or virtually) and/or submit written testimony no later than Saturday, March 21. A livestream of the hearing will also be available on the Legislature’s website. Get more details here.
The LEAP Committee, which is the sponsor of the stipend reform ballot initiative, has shared this guide to make it easy to prepare testimony. If you’re planning to attend the hearing and/or submit testimony, you can let LEAP know here.
