Reporting shows that DHS/ICE are actively scouting, purchasing, and planning to convert approximately 23 warehouses nationwide into new immigration detention and processing facilities. These sites are expected to detain between 1,500 and 10,000 people each, signaling a massive expansion of detention capacity and the normalization of large-scale confinement in facilities built for storing things, not imprisoning people.
Some of the people confined in these warehouses might be our neighbors from here in Brockton.
Local action has already forced the cancellation of some of the proposed facilities. Further action is possible.
Although no new facilities have appeared in Massachusetts so far, ICE is already holding people at their Burlington office and at the Plymouth County House of Corrections.
Detention Watch Network is spearheading a National Day of Action on April 25. Come to a Communities Not Cages standout hosted by Brockton Indivisible! Bring flags to wave, and signs showing solidarity with our immigrant neighbors, and efforts to force the federal government to treat detained people humanely.

Minneapolis showed us the power of Singing Resistance, catalyzing the formation of groups all around the country. A few of us in Brockton brought increased energy and joy to NO KINGS Brockton, and we want to continue singing at protests.
The goal of Brockton Singing Resistance is to get other people singing to bring energy and unity to protests and other events. Outdoor singing is challenging, so we prioritize enthusiasm and loudness over vocal skill — no music experience necessary. We succeed not by pleasing listeners, but by getting others to sing!
We will sing first at Brockton Indivisible’s “Communities Not Cages” protest on Saturday, April 25, 1 – 2:30 PM. We may also sing at a May Day event outside of Brockton, which we can decide at our meeting.

Standout and Community Food Drive – Join Indivisible Lowell and Solidarity Lowell as together we celebrate May 1st through action and community. Please bring food to donate to the Community Food Drive, which is being hosted by The Community Food Partnership of Lowell to benefit The Open Pantry of Greater Lowell. The Open Pantry especially needs the following items – cooking oil, cereal, coffee, diced tomatoes, flour, peanut butter, rice, salt, spices, and tea – which will be collected at our event. We have our peaceful Stand Outs weekly. Every Sunday from noon to 1:30pm we line the street around our Common and hold signs that are relevant to fighting for our Democracy. We sing songs and we do chants, we are unified in our love for our country and we know it is important for us to stand up and be seen, be heard and be with other Patriots that care about our country. We have copies of the Constitution and flags along with signs that can be used. We welcome all to stand tall with us. We also collect food and funds for our town’s Food Pantry. We are in this together and helping our community in this small way is an act of empathy, understanding and kindness that we encourage.

Join Indivisible Maynard Area on Friday May 1 from 4:30-5:30 pm at Veterans Memorial Park in Maynard to stand with workers and unions. We are asking that folks recognize this day with no shopping, no work, and no school to bring attention to the corruption and greed that are attacking our values, our freedoms, and our livelihood. We are becoming both an oligarchy and a kleptocracy. Billionaires and corporate interests have been amassing more power. Our wealth gap has been growing on the backs of workers while our services have been dwindling. We need to stand up with a common voice to tell our government that they represent the people, not corporations.
Together we demand:
1) Billionaires pay their fair share of taxes so that our communities come first
2) Funds be used to protect and strengthen Medicare, Social Security, and other public programs we rely on, not to subsidize corporations and give tax breaks to the ultra wealthy
3) Health care, public schools, and affordable housing be fully funded and accessible
4) Elections represent the will of the people rather than corporate interests and the wealthy few.
5) The protection of immigrants, those with disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, communities of color, and Native communities against bigoted, discriminatory, and dangerous policies.
6) Workers earn a living wage. (Did you know in MA farm workers have a min. wage of only $8 per hour?!)

We’ll have t-shirts for the first 15 people who sign up (and SHOW up) to show others that Indivisible is there to help!
