Activism that Works!

October 20, 2025 @ 6:00 pm 7:30 pm EDT

Do you wonder what resistance actions are the most effective in standing up to the Trump Administration?

This interactive 90 minute workshop will present theory and case studies that will help us explore the most effective actions and tactics that can be used to create social change – including addressing the current threat to democracy in the US.

Specifically, we will focus on 1) identifying and putting pressure on primary and secondary targets, 2) learning about the importance of communicating with unlikely allies and mobilizing passive supporters, and 3) using creative tactics that draw on cultural resonances of the target audience(s).

Interspersed with learning and studying campaign case studies will be small group discussions and exercises designed to help participants apply concepts to goals and projects they care most about.

The workshop leaders have been social justice activists for many decades, in movements including anti-nuclear, anti-intervention, housing rights, youth empowerment, voting rights, climate change, and classism awareness and action; and they have studied the research on social movement outcomes.

About the Speakers: Betsy Leondar-Wright, PhD, is a long-time economic justice activist whose graduate studies focused on what makes social movements succeed. She is the author of several books, most recently Is It Racist? Is It Sexist?

Anne Wright is a long-time social justice activist. Over the last 40 years she has focused on the anti-intervention and environmental justice movements, and on voter registration and education for low-income youth. The sisters are both co-editors of the Don’t Mourn Organize Eastern Mass substack, an e-newsletter that recommends action alerts for progressives in the greater Boston area.

A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

SAFs are a flawed and false climate solution —

  • SAFs will not reduce carbon emissions
  • SAFs will overwhelm the energy grid
  • SAFs will divert public resources from options with far higher CO2 reductions — like fully decarbonizing the electric
  • SAFs will lead to food insecurity, deforestation, fraudulent use of raw materials mislabeled as “waste”

SAFs are marketed as a climate fix—but they’re based on flawed science and industry hype. From crop-based fuels that take land from food to CO2-intensive production, SAFs are just another false solution in the Big Polluters’ Playbook:

AND NOW: “Sustainable” Aviation Fuel

“Clean coal”

“Fracked gas as a bridge fuel”

“Forest management” (aka logging)

Ethanol as “green” gas for cars

Cigarette filters for “healthy” smoking

Rent Stabilization and the Housing Crisis

Virtual Event

October 10, 2025 @ 10:00 am 11:00 am EDT

In 2023 and 2024, PDM hosted a series of five Forums to explore the Commonwealth’s housing crisis and identify key strategies to address it. Last year, the legislature passed the Affordable Homes Act, an important step forward on a number of these strategies. But many challenges remain, especially our critical shortage of low and middle-income housing.

Corporate real estate investors continue to drive up housing prices in many MA communities. Corporate landlords raise rents and reduce availability of affordable units, thereby preventing many families from finding stable housing. Permitting rent stabilization would protect tenants from sudden steep rent hikes and maintain more equitable access to housing.

In 1994, a ballot initiative narrowly passed, discontinuing rent control statewide. Despite ballooning rents and shortages, our legislature has refused to restore measures to protect tenants. If proponents collect enough signatures, the 2026 MA ballot will include a rent stabilization initiative to limit rent increases to a maximum of 5% per year, support small landlords by exempting owner-occupied buildings with four or fewer units and encourage continued housing production with 10-year exemptions for new construction. PDM supports the ballot initiative and is hosting this forum to discuss how it would help.

Our panelists, Mark Martinez, a Housing Attorney at the Massachusetts Law Reform  Institute (MLRI), and Carolyn Chou, Director of Homes for All Massachusetts, will explain the importance of rent stabilization and how you can help get the question  on the ballotCathleen Cavell will moderate.
