Signs of Fascism

March 7 @ 11:00 am 12:30 pm EST

Twenty volunteers will show drivers a sequence of twenty signs that show different symptoms of authoritarianism. It’s a bit of political theater. Sign-holders will be spaced out so drivers will have a moment to think about the words on each sign before encountering the next.

ICE OUT FOR GOOD and ALEX | Multiple Locations, Cape Ann, MA

February 28 @ 11:00 am 11:30 am EST

Wednesday, January 7th, an American citizen was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This killing is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities.

A broad coalition of groups across the country is calling for a coordinated Ice Out For Good actions in solidarity for Minnesota, and to demand accountability, honor the life lost, and make visible the human cost of ICE’s actions.

A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property. Citizen Bank Protests

March 7 All day

Citizens Bank is financing ICE detention companies.

Citizens Bank talks a lot about valuing diversity and building strong communities. What they don’t talk about: they’re helping for-profit prison companies get the cash they need to lock more people away in ICE detention.

You’ve heard the stories that come out of the facilities run by CoreCivic and The GEO Group. 911 dispatchers flooded with calls. Severe medical neglect. Children locked up for months on end. But even as the heartbreaking stories pour out of ICE detention centers, Citizens Bank keeps pouring money into them.

Citizens Bank has dodged accountability for their important role in supporting inhumane ICE detention. Until now.

Peoples State of the Union (LiveStream)

Virtual Event

February 24 @ 8:00 pm 11:00 pm EST

At the State of the Union (SOTU), Republicans in Congress are once again bending the knee to Trump and hanging their constituents out to dry. Nobody should participate in Trump’s vanity project, and that’s why Democratic leaders, MoveOn members, and everyday Americans most impacted by Trump’s chaos are coming together for the People’s State of the Union.

President Trump has spent the first year of his administration making lives worse for Americans: slashing health care, sending masked ICE agents to murder our neighbors, and passing tax cuts for the Epstein class. We cannot give Trump the attention he wants, or validate his lies to the American people. We cannot treat this SOTU like business as usual.

Join MeidasTouch and MoveOn as we present the People’s State of the Union alongside elected officials, partners, allies and directly impacted Americans.

The Founders Saw the Dangers of Great Wealth

February 24 @ 5:00 pm 7:00 pm EST

Featuring Dr. Daniel Mandell, Emeritus Professor of History, Truman State University. Author of the “The Lost Tradition of Economic Equality in America, 1600-1870.” Dr. Mandell will examine politics, theology, economics, law and literature to highlight how the founding generation of the United States feared that concentrated wealth would corrupt their republic. Their belief in the need for a “rough equality” of property was shaped by Roman historians, radical Protestant writers, and Enlightenment philosophers, and supported by the remarkable level of economic parity before the American Revolution. In the wake of the war, Americans generally believed that they lived in the most egalitarian country in the world, but worried that it would be ruined by men using great wealth to gain power. Although this tradition of economic equality would be marginalized after 1800, it remained a significant part of American culture.

Reception Following the Lecture. Free and Open to the Public.
