This November, buried at the end of a long ballot (past all of the statewide questions), the above districts will find a question about reforming legislative stipends. It’s easy to overlook (even easier to underestimate), but it’s essential because it’s one of the most important legislative reform measures available to voters this year.
Please vote YES on the end question (numbers vary) on your November ballot that asks your state representative to support and vote for legislative stipend reform. This would make our legislature more transparent and accountable. It calls for reform of the legislative leadership’s $5.4 million loyalty pay (i.e., stipend) scheme that rewards loyalty rather than public service:
- Legislative leaders use this extra pay as an incentive to get legislators to do what they want rather than what constituents want; and
- Extra pay should only go to legislators who do extra work and do it in a transparent and accountable manner.
Please vote YES to support increased transparency and accountability from our state legislature.
