De-ICE Citizens Bank Malden

May 6 @ 5:30 pm 6:30 pm EDT

Come spread the word about Citizens Bank’s involvement with ICE abuses at this standout at a Citizens Bank location. We are asking people to close their accounts until Citizens Bank stops doing business with CoreCivic and The GEO Group. We’ll have signs you can borrow! Parking available on side streets. For more info see https://www.de-icecitizensbank.org/

Citizens Financial Group has been a financier of the private prison and detention industry since at least 2012. In 2019, in response to grassroots activists and shareholder pressure, eight of the country’s largest banks ended their relationships with the private prison industry. But Citizens Bank stayed the course. Since 2024, Citizens has played key roles helping GEO and CoreCivic access more than $2.5 billion in financing, including $100 million in January 2026.

A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Disappeared In America Day of Action

May 2 @ 11:00 am 12:00 pm EDT

Across the country, immigrant communities are under attack — targeted by raids, detention, and dehumanizing policies that tear families apart. These tactics are being weaponized as part of a broader authoritarian crackdown that threatens the rights and freedoms of everyone.

Now is the time to come together, to stand shoulder to shoulder, and to say clearly: We will not stand by as families are disappeared, rights are dismantled, and democracy itself is eroded.

Bring your friends and your signs !

The Disappeared in America Weekend of Action is a nationwide mobilization to defend our shared values of dignity, freedom, and justice for all. Together, we’ll shine a light on the human toll of detention and demand an end to corporate and government complicity in this cruelty.

A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Citizens Bank: Stop Financing ICE Prisons!

May 2 @ 11:00 am 12:00 pm EDT

eep the pressure on Citizens Bank to get out of the ICE business!

Citizens TALKS a lot about valuing diversity and building strong communities. But they KEEP QUIET about how, behind the scenes, they are financing private prison companies to lock up ICE detainees under inhumane conditions.

After their annual shareholders meeting, the CEO was quoted as saying they MIGHT meet with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization about this. A glimmer! Let’s keep pushing for concrete results!

We’ll stand out on the public sidewalk with signs and informational leaflets. We will urge Citizens Bank customers to contact local branch managers and the bank leadership in Providence, RI with this message: because of Citizens’ investments in ICE, I may close my account, or I have already done so.

We will urge non-customers to express their anger to bank leadership, and to also spread the word about the Citizens – ICE connection.

On May 2, local folksinger Cooper Smithson will lead some easy songs about Citizens + ICE.

Please bring only signs specific to this Citizens Bank action, such as: Citizens Bank: Stop Financing ICE Prisons! // ICE Cages Aren’t “Communities” // “Strengthen Our Communities”? Not with ICE Prisons! // Citizens Bank: Cut Ties With ICE.

We’ll have a few extra signs. Bring US flags too!

Dress for the weather. We will cancel only in case of extreme weather. Sign Up to receive event reminder and notice of any cancellation.

BACKGROUND. Citizens Bank publicly presents itself as a community-centered institution committed to social responsibility. Yet the Bank continues to maintain key financial relationships with CoreCivic and The GEO Group, two notorious, for-profit, prison corporations that build and operate immigration detention facilities for ICE, provide transportation services to ICE, and operate prisons for mass incarceration.

For more details about Citizens Bank’s relationship to the private prison system, go to boycottcitizens.org

The action at Porter Square is led by Cambridge members of the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition comprising about 60 progressive organizations from over a dozen states in the eastern US (de-icecitizensbank.org/).

The Cambridge group can be reached directly at ProtectingOurDemocracy76@gmail.com

THE ASK. The Coalition calls upon Citizens Bank to live up to its stated values by publicly committing to end its financial relationships with private prison and detention contractors. We stand out at the bank to send a clear message: corporations and financial institutions that enable harmful immigration and detention policies must be held accountable by the communities they claim to serve.

A core principle behind all of these events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. Please do not block sidewalks, business entrances, or traffic.

Fund Anti-Concentration Camps Billboards

For months, DHS has been laying the groundwork to massively scale up their detention capacity by converting warehouses into concentration camps across the country. Immigrants in these camps are kept in inhumane conditions, separated from their families and lawyers, and face even higher risk of abuse and death.

The camps are a moral abomination. They’re also massively unpopular in every community where they’ve been proposed. That’s why activists have already succeeded in stopping the construction of more than a dozen camps. The opposition has been strong even in deep red, rural areas — so strong that even some Republican senators have spoken out against them.

But there can’t be a public backlash if local residents don’t even realize DHS is planning a concentration camp in their communities. The regime knows this and that’s why they’re doing everything they can to keep the public in the dark. Well, it’s time to wheel in a big spotlight.

We’re putting up billboards like this one to let residents know there’s a proposed or existing detention camp in their area. These billboards could play a huge role in mobilizing local resistance to Trump’s detention camps, but we need your help to fund them — so please pitch in today if you can.

Billboards, like this draft mockup, will go up in six locations near proposed or existing detention camps in: Surprise, AZ; San Antonio, TX; Hagerstown, MD; Natchez, MS; Orlando, FL; and Miami, FL. They will work hand in hand with our grassroots organizing tactics, including the Communities Not Cages national day of action we’re mobilizing for under the leadership of  Detention Watch Network and Disappeared in America, this Saturday.

We need a wide range of tactics to raise the alarm and mobilize our communities against Trump’s detention agenda. That includes rallies and protests, speaking up at city council and planning board meetings, and visibility tactics like these billboards. But all of our organizing relies on the support of grassroots donors, so if you’re able to, please click here and pitch in today.

Strategies to de-ICE Citizens Bank

May 4 @ 7:00 pm 7:45 pm EDT

Charlie Homer from the de-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition will talk about the coalitions work in general and specifically the efforts of the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization. GBIO is building collective leverage. The strategy: gather pledges from member organizations and individuals to move money out of Citizens Bank, then meet with Citizens Bank leadership to show them the total amount at stake.

Learn about what is happening, hear about the April 23rd protest and what comes next.
