California is one of the Big Three Democratic strongholds – along with New York and Illinois – which have a combined 101 electoral votes where 270 are needed to elect. While the governor’s office and both chambers of the legislature form a Democratic trifecta, there are still Republican U.S. House members and previous Republican governors. Redistricting has changed some districts from red to light blue.
