Worcester’s Incredible History of Activism

June 7 @ 2:00 pm 3:30 pm EDT

This a local Indivisible event!

Worcester has a storied history of activism from the Worcester Revolution in 1774, to hosting the first national Women’s Rights Convention in 1850, to being a hub of anti-war activity in the 60’s and 70’s. Worcester was a prominent center of abolitionist activity characterized by the Underground Railroad and in 1854, famously ran a federal slave catcher out of town. Worcester was the home of well-known activists including Isaiah Thomas, Abby Kelley Foster, and Abbie Hoffman, and frequently hosted former slave and abolitionist, Frederick Douglas, who spoke at Mechanics Hall and Worcester City Hall.

Come support a local business by having coffee and dessert while learning these fascinating stories that teaches us about the power of activism. Come hear Claire Schaeffer-Duffy, a local peace activist, journalist, and co-founder of Sts. Francis and Therese Catholic Worker, tell these stories of power and resistance.

A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Randy Villegas | CA-22

Primary Winner! ENDORSED BY INDIVISIBLE. In CA-22, we believe Randy Villegas is the candidate we need to help defend our democracy in Congress.

He’s committed to holding corporate polluters responsible, establishing universal family leave and child care, introducing congressional term limits, and taking on Trump policies that led to programs such as SNAP, WIC, and Medicare being slashed so the regime’s billionaire enablers can enjoy tax cuts.

Randy isn’t taking a penny of corporate PAC money so we need your help to power his campaign.

Villegas overcame Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains, a physician and moderate Democrat backed by state and national party leaders, in what amounts to a stunning rebuke of establishment politics and in defiance of conventional wisdom on how to win swing districts.

Since the 2016 election, Indivisible has been dedicated to defeating Donald Trump and his authoritarian regime. Trump rules as a wannabe king, dismantling our democracy with a league of sycophantic enablers at his side. Empowered by techno-fascists, self-dealing billionaires, and corporate cowards, this regime is killing the American experiment in democracy with death by a thousand cuts.

We need a real opposition party if we’re to have any hope of not just fighting back, but of winning. Indivisible groups have tremendous power and grassroots energy to pressure elected officials to fight back. But we don’t have time to wait, so Indivisible has launched an Endorsement Program to elect fighters who will be champions for change.

The strategy behind the Primary Endorsement Program is that it is a way to shift the Democratic Party into a fighting posture now, when we need it. We can let them know that we will not stand for the status quo. If Democrats see other status quo Dems losing to grassroots-backed challengers, they will be more likely to shift into fighting mode now.

Dan Osborn for US Senate (NE)

Dan Osborne is running as an independent for this Likely Republican seat. He had a strong showing in the last cycle, only losing by 6 points. The Democratic primary winner, Cindy Burbank, has promised to withdraw from the general election. Indeed, she only ran because Republicans tried to field their own stealth candidate in the Democratic primary. The Nebraska state Democratic party has endorsed Dan Osborn.

Osborn is well positioned to run against the millionaire incumbent, Pete Ricketts. He is a Navy man, a Nebraska National Guardsman, an industrial mechanic, a union leader, a husband, and a father. Pete Ricketts was appointed to the Senate, and his net worth is estimated at 206 million dollars, stemming from his family’s founding of Ameritrade.

Chris Pappas for US Senate (NH)

US Representative Christ Pappas is running for the open Senate seat in New Hampshire. Their primary is not until September 8, but with his statewide recognition, and organization skills, he will likely prevail over his unknown Democratic opponent, Karishma Manzur. The Republican primary is dominated by Scott Brown and John Sununu. Sununu is the son of former Gov. John H. Sununu (R) and the brother of Gov. Chris Sununu (R) and will be a formidable opponent.

Our neighboring state is easy to canvass – consider volunteering for primary get out the vote initiatives. Cook Political has rated this race “Lean D” but we must hold this Democratic seat in our quest for the majority.

Denise Powell | NE-02

NPR describes the importance of this primary win: “The second district, which includes the Omaha area, is known as the “blue dot” because it was the lone Nebraska district to vote for Kamala Harris in 2024 and Joe Biden in 2020. It is currently represented by Republican Don Bacon, who is retiring. Democrats see the seat as a prime pickup opportunity.

Denise Powell is a strong candidate, focused on reigning in Trump regime attacks on farmers, healthcare, the rule of law, and more. She knocked on over 10,000 doors to bring her message to Nebraskans: She will fight for people, not billionaires or corporations.

She is running in an open seat in one of just three Republican-held seats won by Kamala Harris in ‘24. The district is among the most evenly divided in the nation with a slim D+0.8 margin. Denise, a Latina, is a former corporate executive, small-business owner, health-care advocate, and public-school supporter. Cook Political rates this seat at Lean D.

Denise is endorsed by Force Multiplier, Activate America, and Swing Left.
