Brockton Singing Resistance organizing meeting

Virtual Event

April 13 @ 7:00 pm 7:30 pm EDT

Minneapolis showed us the power of Singing Resistance, catalyzing the formation of groups all around the country. A few of us in Brockton brought increased energy and joy to NO KINGS Brockton, and we want to continue singing at protests.

Brockton Singing Resistance is planned not to be a choir, but instead to get other people singing and adding energy to protests and other events. Outdoor singing is challenging, so we prioritize enthusiasm and loudness over vocal skill — and no music experience necessary. If we succeed it is not by pleasing listeners, but by getting others to sing!

It’s practically impossible to sing live at this (very short!) Zoom meeting, but we CAN Zoom to see how many are interested in an ongoing Brockton Singing Resistance, and decide when to meet in person, and decide what comes next!

In the meantime, here are two YouTube playlists. The first contains a variety of music that livened up NO KINGS Brockton, while the second is the songs we sang when we gathered for that purpose — these are simple and repetitive so people can learn them on the fly. See how you like them! Bring a playlist or song ideas of your own to share at the Zoom!

A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

De-Ice Citizens Bank- Protest at Annual Shareholder Meeting

April 23 @ 8:00 am 12:00 pm EDT

On April 23, Citizens Bank will be holding their Annual Shareholder Meeting at its headquarters in Providence, RI. In response, a coalition of progressive organizations from the surrounding area will be holding a peaceful standout that we are calling “The People’s Shareholder Meeting to De-ICE Citizens Bank” outside of the headquarters building.

We will hold a press conference, rally the people, sing and chant our resistance, educate the general public, and create artivism to get Citizens Bank De-ICE’d!

Citizens Bank publicly presents itself as a community-centered institution committed to social responsibility. Yet the bank continues to maintain key financial relationships with CoreCivic and The GEO Group: two notorious, for-profit, prison corporations that build and operate immigration detention facilities for ICE, provide transportation services to ICE, and operate prisons for mass incarceration.

For more information about Citizens Bank’s relationship to the private prison system, go to www.De-ICECitizensBank.org. You can also contact the De-ICE Coalition at de.ICE.CitizensBank@gmail.com.

A core principle behind all Coalition events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Indivisible has a great safety and security resource you can review before the event: https://indivisi.org/safety.

Wear weather appropriate clothing, bring water and a snack.

Things to note: Parking is either on-street metered or paid parking garages/lots. There are numerous in the area. Public restrooms are located inside the Providence Train Station which is a block north from the standout.

Editor’s Note: We don’t usually promote events outside of Massachusetts, however, this important protest is just about an hour outside of Boston.

Julie Gonzales- Colorado Primary for US Senate

Primary is June 30th. ENDORSED BY INDIVISIBLE. From fighting for renters and affordable housing, to championing workers rights and educational justice, Julie Gonzales has spent her life turning organizing into action and values into results.

A longtime organizer for immigrant rights, Julie has championed legislation to stop ICE from getting access to personal data and protect immigrants from arrest when they go to the doctor, school, or their place of worship. As a member of the Colorado State Senate, she’s delivered major wins including enshrining abortion as a fundamental right, advancing voting rights, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and repealing the death penalty.

Julie is unapologetically progressive, running a people-powered campaign to be a U.S. Senator Colorado deserves — one who is bold, honest, and willing to fight the fascist takeover of our government with the urgency and passion this moment requires. In the U.S. Senate, she’ll fight for affordability for all by establishing universal healthcare, childcare, and elder care, raising the federal minimum wage, and securing affordable housing. She’ll ensure a fair deal for everyone by cracking down on price gouging and junkfees, strengthening worker power, and banning congressional stock trading. She’ll champion the freedom to thrive by abolishing ICE, strengthening voting rights, and expanding access to abortion.

The Indivisible Colorado Action Network has endorsed Gonzales, because, in the battle against fascism, we need leaders like Julie Gonzales. We’re proud to stand with Colorado Indivisibles to support Gonzales in her run to be the next U.S. Senator for Colorado.
