Ride for Our Republic

April 18 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm EDT

We Ride on Patriot’s Day Weekend!

On Saturday we meet at Paul Revere Park across from the playground in Charlestown at 10am and roughly take Paul Revere’s route to Lexington Center Patriot’s Day parade.

For our first ride we will use our 2025 12.7-mile route (bike paths + roads), but you’re welcome to join or leave at the waypoints where we rally and connect.

Route: Boston → Davis Sq (3.9 mi) Davis Sq → Arlington Center (3.8 mi) Arlington Center → Lexington Center (5 mi)

10:00am – Meet at Paul Revere Park near the playground (North Washington St., Charlestown) – rain or shine

10:45–11:00am – 7 Hills Park, Davis Square, Somerville behind the T station

11:30–11:45am – Uncle Sam Statue, Arlington Center

Ending Point – Lexington Center, Minuteman Bikeway

On Monday we do a reverse trip to Boston’s Patriot’s Day Parade.

Ride for Our Republic is a recurring pro-democracy bike ride held on the last Saturday of each month that was held April-October 2025. In the spirit of Paul Revere and on the 250th anniversary of the first American Revolution, we ride to sound the alarm of tyranny and fight for our democracy.

Fascism cannot flourish where joy and solidarity thrive. That truth is the heartbeat of Ride for Our Republic: a growing community of cyclists reclaiming Boston’s streets and bike paths as spaces of protest, hope, and joyful resistance.

Please follow our facebook page: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088170471304

Our monthly #Ride4Republic bike protests will go from April to October 2026.

Bring: bright colors or neon, pro-democracy costumes or signs (bike frame, basket, shirt, or bag), American flags, and No Kings signs.

Don’t forget water, snacks, packed lunch, sunscreen, bike lock, and other ride supplies.

Yours in Solidarity and Joyful Resistance,

Ride for Our Republic

Bear Witness- Protest and Food Drive Wednesdays at ICE

April 8 @ 11:00 am 1:00 pm EDT

Updated with New Carpool and Parking Information!

BEARING WITNESS STANDOUT SCHEDULE AND GUIDELINES

Above all, we are committed to nonviolence.

  • The standout takes place every Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • From 11 am to noon, Bearing Witness organizers and special guest speakers address those gathered and discuss a variety of immigration-related topics.
  • From noon-12:30 pm, the loudspeakers are turned toward the ICE building and those gathered are invited to come up to the microphone and read parts of the U.S. Constitution.
  • From 12:30-1 p.m., the crowd turns and marches down District Avenue to Mall Road, where we stand with our signs, sing and chant, and wave to passing motorists.
  • We ALWAYS stand peacefully with signs outside the ICE facility.
  • We ALWAYS hold signs with supportive messages about immigrants and/or against ICE. We do not focus on other issues.
  • We do not block the entrance, approach ICE agents, or block traffic on District Avenue.
  • We DO NOT stand in restricted areas as designated by Burlington police.
  • We IGNORE and do not engage with “counter protestors,” those who are supporters of ICE.

INTERACTIONS WITH DETAINEES AND ICE OFFICIALS

Immigrants who are fortunate to leave the facility have shown gratitude for our presence and some share their stories with us.

  • ICE agents tend to cover their faces with masks, many record us with their phones, others give a smug smile or laugh, though they rarely say anything.
  • The security officers stationed at the front of the building have not bothered us to date.

BEARING WITNESS CARPOOL SERVICE

  • We have a NEW volunteer-led carpool, which operates from a few nearby parking lots. Availability is limited so sign up in advance is highly recommended, but not required. You can request a ride – or volunteer to be a driver –  using this link (you will receive an email with full details about parking, etc.):  https://tally.so/r/GxrQkO

OTHER PARKING OPTIONS

  • Other than the carpool option, parking remains an issue for attendees. Please note that you will likely be towed if you park in any private lots along District Avenue or at the Burlington Mall. National Development, owners of The District properties along District Avenue, have contracted with Hunter Security Services and Murray’s Towing and will tow cars suspected of parked to attend the standout.
  • Parking is no longer allowed at the AMC Burlington lot.
  • The MBTA 350 bus runs from the Alewife T stop to Burlington Mall Road. Exit the bus at the “Burlington Mall Road” stop, opposite NE Executive Park, which is at the intersection of Mall Road and District Avenue.
  • If you prefer a shorter bus ride, you can drive to Burlington and park at the United Church of Christ (6 Lexington St., Burlington) or Temple Shalom Emeth (16 Lexington St., Burlington) and walk to the 350 bus stop at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Bedford Street.

SIGNS FOR THE STANDOUT

Due to the ongoing parking issues, we recommend that standout attendees do not bring their own signs (it clearly shows the towing company that you’re heading to the standout).

Instead, please consider borrowing a sign from the large selection offered by Bearing Witness at each Wednesday standout. Upon arrival ask any safety marshall (wearing an orange vest) for the location of the box of signs. At the conclusion of the standout, please return the signs to the box.

If you choose to bring a sign — and if you use our new carpool service feel free to bring a sign — please remember that this is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility and is not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues, while outside the ICE facility we must remain focused on immigration. Our goal is to come together across any political differences to show our collective support for immigrants and their rights.

Need help or ideas for making a sign? Follow these tips!

Bearing Witness attendees Tina & Jay continue to collect food pantry donations to help local immigrant families. You can drop off unopened food/health/household items by the tree.

Indivisible Waltham Celebrates a Year of Local Activisism

April 16 @ 6:00 pm 9:00 pm EDT

Indivisible Waltham has just completed our first year in existence. To continue to deepen our connections and lay the groundwork for building the local, in-person, neighbor-to-neighbor networks of support that we are likely to need in the coming months, we are hosting a 1-year anniversary celebration on Thursday, April 16, at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation. Space is limited, so please RSVP here if you plan to attend, as it will help us plan for appropriate amounts of food and beverages.

What: Celebrate a year of Indivisible Waltham
When: Thursday April 16, 6-9pm (drop in when you can)
Where: Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation

Details: We’ll have food so you can have a quick snack or make a dinner of it, with gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and omnivore options. We’ll have music, thanks to Sandra Waddock, who has played music at one of our past standouts, protest art, thanks to Joshua Winer, who has been creating large-scale protest artwork over the past year, and we’ll have videography and photography from our rallies that document our first year of standing out in public together to raise the visibility of resistance action locally.

Please RSVP if you’ll attend, and then just drop in whenever you can between 6 and 9pm on Thursday – we can’t wait to see you! And feel free to bring friends, just include them in your RSVP so we can plan food and beverage supplies accordingly.

May Day CONTINUES: Stand out Rally with Music, Speakers, and YOU!

May 2 @ 12:00 pm 1:30 pm EDT

On Saturday May 2nd we will have a Standout Rally for MayDay, with an emphasis on Mayday and all that goes with it. We will have speakers, music, and a few surprises. Workers Rights! People before profits! Workers Before Billionaires!

As always, feel free to contact us if you’d like to help out in any way. We are always in need of your time and talents in the form of speakers, musicians or performers of any sort, as well as volunteers to hand things out and work our Resource Table. And someone’s got to keep those bubble machines going! More details to follow. Please join us for both events to recognize these National Days of Action. Contact us at salemscall@yahoo.com if you’d like to help.

Prior to Saturday, on Friday, May 1, we will recognize the importance of May Day with a Standout Rally at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Special Candlelighting Ceremony to honor workers, immigrants, and ask for fairness for all in elections, rent control, doing away with ICE and promoting the rights and Liberties of workers everywhere.

Please come join us, for one, or both, events.

This a local Indivisible event!

A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

May Day – A Festival of Student & Worker Power at UMass Amherst

May 1 @ 9:00 am 6:00 pm EDT

In collaboration with a variety of groups on our campus, including but not limited to student activism groups, political organizations, cultural organizations, sustainability and environmental groups, faculty, staff, and graduate students, Sunrise at UMass Amherst is hosting a day-long student strike on UMass campus and festival for student power! We’ll have performers (bands, dance groups, comedy acts, etc), teach-ins (the fight for fair pay on campus, student democracy—and the lack of it, Palestine and divestment, climate change and its connection to authoritarianism, and hopefully more), art and meditation, and more. The goal of this event is to utilize the takeover of Metawampe Lawn and the turnout of as many students who have skipped class and attended as possible to show the university that we run this campus and can shut it down!

All are welcome – students, workers, alumni, and community members!
